Year 2: Chapter 52: Welcome to Beta Gamma Kappa! : Part 2: (Abby’s POV)

Screenshot-4535 (2)

I barely notice how fast the last two weeks of school go by. I am just so happy. I had been so worried about my relationship with Charls that I hadn’t really thought about anything else. What a relief it was to have him back, and boy have we been making up for lost time.

I find myself blushing in my final glass blowing class, as my mind wonders over to thinking about our passionate night together. And yes, it was passionate.

Somehow it reflects in my final project and my professor praises my vase saying the shape is very sensual and full of tender feelings. Thank God Janice wasn’t here. She would have spent the rest of class joking about it.

I then turn in my glass vase along with my stain glass bowl and then head out. I have really enjoyed taking the class. Kimberly was right on. I only hope the classes I chose for Fall quarter (Art and Architecture) will be as interesting.

As I leave the building, I look up and then heave a long sigh. Brad is standing just some ways in front of me.

“What do you want, Brad?” I say walking past him. I really don’t have time for him right now. I had to meet Janice at the student union for a study session.

Brad clears his throat. “I wanted to talk to you. I don’t like the way we…left things.”

“I think we’ve talked enough.”

“Abby please-”

I grit my teeth. “Please what? Brad, you helped sabotage the final event of the Greek Olympics just so my sorority would lose! What else is there to say?

“I want to say, I’m sorry.”

Screenshot-5210 (2)

“It was a pretty low thing to do,” he continues. “I guess I just got so caught up in myself, that I wasn’t thinking. This thing with you and Charls…it’s hard for me.”

“Well, you really need to let it go.”

“He was my friend, Abby. My best friend. I just never thought that you and him would…” he drifts off staring toward the ground.

My face softens. I am actually surprised that he hasn’t brought this up before.

Screenshot-5209 (2)

I sigh deeply. “Brad, I can’t say that I regret getting together Charls because he is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, but I am sorry about the pain that it caused you. Charls and I didn’t get together to hurt you.…we just fell in love. And not to be rude, but you lost the privilege to have an opinion about who I date when you cheated on me with Clare.”

Brad scoffs. “Why do you always have to bring that up?”

“Because it’s what happened!” I frown. “You cheated on me with her for months and when I found out, it broke my heart. I thought I would never be able to go on.” I smile. “But Charls was there for me. He and Lizzie.”

“He preyed on you,” Brad snaps. “He took advantage of the fact that you were…hurting.”

I roll my eyes. “No, he didn’t. He was a friend to me, and as for us getting together, that happened on its own. I’m sorry, but you’re going to have to accept that.”

We both stare at each other in silence.

“I have to go,” I say finally. “I’m meeting up with a friend at the student union.” I then start to walk away.

“You know, I really did love you,” Brad calls after me. “I-I think I still do.”

I pause for a second and take a deep breath. “I loved you too, Brad,” I say, and then continue down the sidewalk.

Screenshot-5409 (2)

When I reach the top floor of the student union building, Janice is already seated at one of the tables studying from her sports medicine textbook. I quickly join her at the table and pull out my textbooks to study as well.

We study for the next few hours, chatting all the while. I know it is a bit distracting to Janice, but I can’t help it. I am still so excited about everything that has happened with our sorority.

Screenshot-5411 (2)

“So, I’m thinking by next year we should try to recruit five more pledges!”

Janice looks up. “Five?”

“Yes! I want us to build up the members in our chapter. Right now, it is only the six of us.”

“Seven if we count Carrie. Is she still joining?”

I shrug. “I don’t know, I haven’t seen her since the Olympics.” I then perk up. “You know, I was thinking about throwing a party for the end of finals. Our first party as a sorority.”

Screenshot-5412 (2)

Janice nods and then flips a page. “That sounds fun. Just don’t exclude anyone this time.”

“I never excluded-”

“I know, I’m just joking!”

Janice smirks and I roll my eyes. I still don’t know where Kelsy got the idea that she and the Kappa Alpha Omegas were not allowed to attend our Greek formal.

“So how are things with you and Charls?”

I beam. “Wonderful.”

“Oh, I know, it was a rhetorical question. I think the whole house knows how good things are between you two.”

“Janice!” My face turns bright red.

Janice just laughs and highlights a passage with her neon orange highlighter.

Screenshot-5406 (2)

I close my book and then rise from my chair. “I-I’m going to go get something from the vending machines,” I say and then walk over to the nearest machine.

After slipping in two dollars, I punch in the code for a Coca Cola and then retrieve it from the hole underneath. Goodness, I had thought that Charls and I had finally learned to be discreet, but clearly not if the whole house could hear us!

Screenshot-5404 (2)

“You know, I was just teasing,” Janice then says appearing by my side.

I smile. “I know, it’s just a bit awkward.”

Janice laughs. “Hey, truthfully, I can’t really talk. There is a reason why I always go to Greg’s apartment.” She then winks and walks back to the table.

I stare after her wide eyed. Now that was way more than I wanted to know about her!

Screenshot-5413 (2)

We spend thirty minutes eating our snacks and then resume back to our studying. I don’t think I have ever studied so hard. I really want to get a good score on my Geology exam. Things have gotten a bit more challenging, but I still want to reach my goal of a 3.5 gpa.

Screenshot-5399 (2)

After the fourth hour, Janice and I call it quits. We then walk over to one of the nearby tennis tables. Janice then totally owns me at a game of tennis. I swear, she can hit that ball back and forth at lightning speed! No wonder she beat everyone at the Greek Olympics. All in all, it was a nice release. All that studying had made me pretty cranky.

Screenshot-4950 (2)

That said, it does pay off. When I start my finals that Monday, I am surprised to find the answer to each question coming to me. Even with my Geology class, the answers are just flying into my head unlike all the other times when I was pondering around and eventually had to guess.

I then finish my exam and after checking over my answers, I turn it in and leave class twenty-five minutes early. I only hope that I did as well as I thought I did.

Screenshot-3826 (2)

“Stop worrying,” Charls says to me as we cuddle together that Thursday night. Classes have finally ended for the summer and I will know my final grades by tomorrow.

“I can’t,” I say, resting my head upon his shoulder. “I am determined to lift my gpa this quarter.”

“And you will. You’ve been studying like crazy. I’m sure you’re going to pass that class.”

“True.” I smile. “I’ll bet you’re happy you don’t have to deal with all this anymore.”

Charls laughs. “I can’t lie, I won’t. Although I will miss seeing you.”

Screenshot-3839 (2)

“You still taking that job at Hillman corp?” Charls had told me that he had received two job offers from two big businesses. The one at Hillman corp seemed to be the one he was leaning more towards.

Charls smiles. “I am definitely thinking about it. Like I said, I can work from anywhere. They actually have an office downtown.”

I look up. “Really?”
“Yah. So if I take it, I’ll be working from right here.”

I bite my lip. “Not trying to sway, but it would be nice to still see you every day.”

“Well, you just might be in luck.”

I grin. “I am so happy for your graduation. Whose all coming?”

Screenshot-3838 (2)

Charls seems to become a bit distant when I ask. He then shrugs. “Well, I know my brother, Ben is coming with his wife, Liza, but I don’t know about my parents or my sister, Celine.”

I frown and sit up. “Really? Your parents aren’t coming? How can they miss your big day?”

“It’s not that big,” Charls protests, but when he sees the look on my face, he sighs. “The thing is, I didn’t really invite them.”

“Really? How come?”

Charls looks away. “It’s complicated.”

I touch his cheek with my hand. “Tell me.”

Charls rubs the back of his neck. “I really don’t like to talk about it, but basically some stuff went down between me and dad that kind of wrecked things between us. I haven’t really spoken to him or my mom since.”

Screenshot-3829 (2)

I move back into Charls’s arms. “It sounds like it was really serious.”

“It-it was.” Charl then shakes his head. “But let’s not worry about that. Right now, I just want to focus on you, my love.”

I giggle and pull him closer. “And I you,” I say back, faking a British accent and we begin to kiss again.

Screenshot-3840 (2)

I don’t know how long we lay kissing like that, but the next thing I know, we are lying beside each other with my eyelids heavy. I just lay staring into Charls beautiful eyes until I finally drift off to sleep.

Screenshot-5179 (2)

When I wake up several hours later, I feel comforted to see Charls lying beside me. He opens his eyes when I stretch.

“Morning,” he says and I laugh.

“Morning.” I then hear the clanging of pots downstairs. I look over at the clock and realize it is almost twelve. Everyone is probably already up. This would be a good time for him to leave before Kimberly notices.

Screenshot-5186 (2)

Charls on the other hand, has other ideas. “You have to go,” I say as he reaches over to start kissing me again.

“Come on Abby,” he says, and my heart lurches with excitement.

“Charls, they’re all downstairs-”

“They won’t hear us.”

“They did last-”

Screenshot-5187 (2)

Charls cuts off my last word with a kiss and soon I let myself surrender to him. We then kiss tenderly as we roll upon my mattress. My strong desire to be close to him takes over, and soon we are repeating the events of last night, over and over again.

Screenshot-5177 (2)

An hour later, Charls dresses back in his clothes from the night before and then kisses me goodbye.

“Don’t forget the party tonight,” I say as he nears the door. “I want to see you there.”

Charls grins. “I wouldn’t miss it.”

Screenshot-4226 (2)

After Charls leaves, I head into the kitchen to get some coffee.

Lizzie and Selena are both in their pajamas cooking together when I enter. After pouring myself a cup of coffee, I decide to help out and clean the counters for them. Lizzie then asks me if I slept well, and it isn’t until she and Selena both start laughing that I realize what she means. Feeling my face flush, I grab my cup of coffee and rush back upstairs. It looks like once again, Charls and I had alerted the whole house!

Screenshot-4805 (2)

Feeling still embarrassed, I take a shower and then get dressed in my walk-in closet. I then head back downstairs to see how things are going.

Screenshot-5081 (2)

Selena is hanging out by the pool getting some fresh air.

“Penny for your thoughts,” I say walking over to her.

Selena looks up at me and then smiles. “Sorry I was spacing.”

Screenshot-5087 (2)

“No need to apologize. I was just checking in.”

Selena smiles. “You know this land really is beautiful. It’s a perfect place for a sorority.”

I nod. “It sure is. I knew when I first saw it, that it was the one.”

“I can’t believe we are a sorority now! Amazing how one little deal had such a big impact on us.”

I smirk. “Yah. I’m sure Taylor and Clare are still reeling from anger.”

Screenshot-5089 (2)

We both laugh.

“So what plans do you have for the summer?” Selena asks.

I shrug. “Mostly hanging out with friends and family. You?”

“My parents want us to visit London this summer. We leave in two weeks.”

My eyes widen. “That sounds amazing! You should take lots of pictures. We could use some of them for our sorority blog.”

Selena nods. “Will do.”

Screenshot-5091 (2)

We then chat for another thirty minutes before going back inside. The party will be starting in a few hours.

Screenshot-4798 (2)

With me leaving tomorrow evening, I decide to get my last load of laundry done. It takes me a couple hours, but soon my clothes are all clean and smell like fresh linen. I then fold them neatly and slip them into my suitcase.

When I finish, it is almost time for the party to start. After touching up my face in the mirror, I then head downstairs.

Screenshot-5034 (2)

When I come downstairs, the party has already started. I spot the boys of Eta Phi Nu walking inside and even spot one of Brad’s frat brother’s hanging in the corner, Dean.

Screenshot-5045 (2)

I am really starting to wonder what the hell he is doing here, when I spot him talking to Charls. They both seem deep in conversation and then start to laugh. Strange… Did this mean that they had cleared the air? Did it mean the Alpha Annyas were going to be friendlier? I won’t hold my breath.

Screenshot-5046 (2)

The doorbell then rings and I go out to check who it is. Apparently, someone had ordered pizza. As I pay the deliverer, I see Carrie coming up the drive way.

“Hey,” I say, as I tip the delivery boy. “I was hoping you would stop by.”

Carrie grins. “I’m sure you were. Sorry, I’ve been busy with finals.”

Screenshot-5047 (2)

“No problem.” I then smirk. “So fyi, we won the Greek Olympics.”

Carrie looks at me and laughs. “Ah, I see you haven’t forgotten about our deal.”

“Well, in that case, I suppose you now have a new pledge.”

I squeal and give Carrie a hug. “Welcome to Betta Gamma Kappa!”

Screenshot-5048 (2)

Carrie beams. “Thank you. I hope to be a great addition to your sorority.”

“And I’m sure you will.” I then notice Ryder staring at us from the dining room window.

“I think your boyfriend is getting lonely.”

Carrie looks up and giggles. “Oh, I better get going.”

She then disappears inside.

Screenshot-5062 (2)

As I head back inside, I see Kendal and Lizzie chatting by the door. I am about to step in and say something, when I see that Lizzie looks okay. Kendal was the one that looked down. Very. Lizzie must have finally ended things with him for good. Man, I could tell by the look on his face that he really had it bad for her. I even feel a bit sorry for him, but not enough to say anything.

Screenshot-5069 (2)

When I enter back into the dining room, I spot Carrie and Ryder kissing in the corner. It’s so weird because Carrie didn’t strike me as someone who would kiss in public. Then again, neither did Lizzie. Love makes you do crazy things.

Screenshot-5078 (2)

As the night pours on, I walk about watching everyone and snapping photos. I don’t even care that the music is blasting pretty loud. I just want to remember this evening forever.

Screenshot-5559 (2)

Mrs. Krutz herself even stops by, wanting to see her sorority house up close. I am so happy when she approves of our house and formally agrees to be our housemother.

“You have really done an excellent job, Abby,” she says. “Starting a new sorority is no easy thing. I still can’t believe all the work that you did to form it. That takes great determination.”

I blush. “Thank you.”

“Well, keep it up. I want to hear from you during the summer and definitely come see me in the Fall. We will need to work on expanding.”

I smile and agree.

“Have a great summer, Abby.”

“You too, Mrs. Krutz.”

Screenshot-5644 (2)

As she walks away, I just stand there watching the party in awe about everything that has happened over the past two years. When I first came to Aberdale last year, never in a million years would I have thought that I would start my own sorority. I thought that at the most, I would become a part of someone else’s and have to listen to someone else tell me what to do. To prank others like I did to Lizzie, or worse, be only allowed to have certain friends or date certain people.

Now, I don’t. I am now a leader, leading a group of girls who are nothing like the Tri-Fruhms or the Alpha Beta Phis. And unlike them, I am not controlling everything. I prefer for our sorority to work together as a team to make our sorority one of the best on campus, and honestly, I had this gut feeling it was going to happen.

I see Lizzie making her way to the door with Michael and call her over to me.

“Picture for the collage?” I ask, and Lizzie smiles.

“Sure. It is our first sorority house party after all.”

We bother then grin and I flash the photo.

Screenshot-5647 (2) 2

Looking at that photo of the two us, I just know someday down the road I am going to look at it with fondness and remember the magnitude of that moment. I’ll remember that with everything that the two of us have been through for the past two years of college; fights, heartbreak, betrayal, distrust, and forgiveness, the only way to go was up.

(Hey my readers! Thank you so much for reading Year 2 of Lizzie and Abby: The College Diaries! I have enjoyed writing it greatly and I hope you have all been enjoying reading it as well. And fear not! As I stated in my last post, this will not be the end of Lizzie and Abby! I will be continuing their life stories into their adult years, so stay tuned! There is definitely more to come, starting with the summer of their college graduation!

Also, stay tuned, for I will be starting a new Sims 3 adventure/fantasy story! More soon and keep reading, liking and commenting! 🙂 )

Year 2: Chapter 51: Welcome To Beta Gamma Kappa!: Part 1 (Lizzie’s POV)

Screenshot-5281 (2)

The last two weeks of Spring quarter go by quickly after the Greek Olympics. Everyone seems to be in a good mood around the house, thrilled about our victory over the Alpha Beta Phis. I still can’t believe that Clare was so desperate enough to cheat, let alone Brad. Abby had filled me in how he had had one of his frat brothers mess with the batteries of our walkie talkies to stop us from communicating with each other. It’s pretty sad how desperate they all were, but we still prevailed.

I am also so thrilled to have cleared the air with Michael. Without it weighing on me, I am able to focus more on my studying for finals and practicing for my final presentation.

Screenshot-5020 (2)

I end up presenting on Monday of finals week. As nervous as I had been, I actually do an excellent job. Well, at least from my point of view. My voice doesn’t waver one bit and I stay completely on point. I even manage to use the white board to explain some of my findings after showing my PowerPoint. By the time I finish, Professor Farientine nods to me with a little smile. The class then applauds and I make my way to my seat.

Screenshot-4006 (2)

Thirty minutes later, he announces that we will resume presentations tomorrow and then excuses us for the day. On my way, out, he personally congratulates me on a job well done, saying that I am exactly what he expects of his apprentices. I nod politely and then leave. I still stand by what I said, he has become so friendly that it is so odd.

Screenshot-5265 (2)

I then head over to the library for a study session with Michael, Charls, and Abby. Sitting at one of the computers, I start going over Astronomy practice quizzes. Michael reads though his programming textbook, stopping to stare at me over the top of it. I feel myself blush slightly. I love when Michael looks at me like that. I glance over at Abby and Charls and see that they are doing the same, although truthfully, I think that they are thinking about “other” things. I happened to hear a lot of movement coming from her room the past couple nights. I don’t think Kimberly knows that Abby has been having Charls as her nightly visitor, but even so after everything they went through, I doubt she would object.

Screenshot-5271 (2)

After a couple hours have passed, Charls stands up from his chair.

“I should head off,” he says. “I’m meeting with someone from the career center.”

Abby grins. “I still can’t believe you’re graduating. It’s so exciting!”

“Yah, it is.” Charls smiles and tucks his book under his arm. “And with luck, I may have a job offer. I went to the job fair this past Saturday and the representatives for Hillman corp. seemed very interested. Would be perfect for me since they have offices everywhere.”

Abby frowns. “What about that other one you mentioned? Winstela Hills?”

Charls shakes his head. “No. I’m not accepting anything from there. They are too connected to, well…someone I know.” He suddenly looks a bit annoyed and I can’t help but wonder who that “someone” is that he so badly wanted to distance himself from.

I don’t get to ask though, for he then kisses Abby goodbye and leaves.

Screenshot-5275 (2)

I stay for thirty minutes more, before also calling it a night.

“I think I am all studied up for today,” I say to Abby, and I log off my computer. “I’ll see you back at the house.”

Abby nods to me and after Michael waves farewell, we then walk hand in hand out of the library.

Screenshot-5618 (2)

We both however, don’t head straight home. Instead, we go right to the comic bookstore. We haven’t been there together in so long, so we decided to get some time in before the quarter ends.

Screenshot-5621 (2)

We then play some video games on the TV console in the game room. Michael had been wanting me to do so for a while, but I had never really gotten around to it.

We end up having a complete blast together and I only wish we had done this earlier.

Screenshot-5623 (2)

Throughout the time, Michael and I are chatting about our plans over the summer. He tells me that he is going back to stay with his mother and maybe get a part-time job.

“I’ll probably get something with the diner in town. I know the owner from when I used to hang there in high school.”

“That sounds nice.” I then try a game combo Michael taught me to take down an enemy on the game. “I’m going to try and get my job back at the library. I really do love working there.”

“Well it is fitting for an aspiring writer.”

I grin and use another combo to defeat the final boss.

“You know, you are unusually good at this. Are you sure you haven’t played something like this before?”

I set the controller down. “Well, I have played a bit with Judy at home, but mostly, I think it’s just that I have an amazing teacher.”

“That you do.”

Screenshot-5642 (2)

We decide to play a table game of galactica before heading out. The table was just put in recently so we both hadn’t gotten a chance to play it.

We end up going at it for another hour, before we decide to head home.

Screenshot-5615 (2)

After giving Michael a kiss goodbye, I hurry off down the sidewalk toward home.

Screenshot-5258 (2)

I spend the rest of the week studying and taking finals. I am so relieved when I take my last final on Wednesday afternoon. It is in my Astronomy class which I am freaking out about.

Luckily, from all my studying, I am able to pass through the exam rather quickly. With luck, I might just get an A.

Screenshot-4274 (2)

And sure enough, I do! I am psyched Friday afternoon when I check the mail and see an envelope with my final grades. Scanning it, I see a 4.0 for this quarter! I can’t lie, I never grow tired of seeing it. I have an urge to go upstairs to show Abby, but I have a pretty good feeling that she is not alone up there.

To celebrate, I decide to head down and play some video games. Janice had bought a new action one over the weekend and I was curious to try my skills on it.

Screenshot-4279 (2)

“I see you’re checking out my game,” Janice says just then, taking a seat next to me on the couch.

I laugh. “I couldn’t resist. Michael has really gotten me into playing.”

“I can see that.” Janice smirks. “And you’re not half bad either.”

“Oh, just so you know, Abby is throwing a party tonight. For end of term.”

“That sounds fun.”

Screenshot-4281 (2)

Janice nods. “It will be our first party as an official sorority.”

I smile and sit back. “That feels so weird to hear you say.”

“Even weirder, we are real sorority girls now. I never thought I would see the day.”

“Neither did I.” I sigh. “We really have come a long way.”

“You can say that again.” Janice then stands up. “I’m going to run to the store. Selena wants to make some of her tarts for the party and she is out of flour.”

Screenshot-4227 (2)

After Janice leaves, I decide to check in on Selena in the kitchen.

As I enter, Selena is mixing away at the counter humming softly as she stirs.

“Need any help?” I ask.

She looks over and smiles. “Sure. You could crack the eggs sitting on that tray.”

I lift up the tray and carry it over to the counter. Then one by one I crack the eggs.

“I can’t believe we are a real sorority now,” Selena exclaims. “Can you imagine what it is going to be like next year? Everything is going to be so different!”

Screenshot-4225 (2)

I look up. “What do you mean?”

“Well, now we have more pull. We can go to the same events, get the same funding and pledge more members! Also, we can have a say on the Greek council!”

“The council? How?”

“Isn’t every council member part of a Greek Chapter? Now that we are established, one of us can become a part of the council too.”

I purse my lips slightly. “Hmm, that’s a thought, but I doubt it will be that easy. With all the Alpha Beta Phis and the Alpha Annyas did to try and stop us from becoming a sorority, I doubt they would let it be that easy.”

“True. But it doesn’t hurt to try!”

Selena and I then get to work mixing up batches of her tarts and other pastries and later, Janice brings in the flour to help us finish up.

Screenshot-4228 (2)

After we put them all in the oven, I help Selena clean up the kitchen. Abby comes down a little later to get some coffee and help us.

“Did you sleep well,” Selena remarks, and when Abby says yes, she and I burst out laughing.

Abby looks confused, but then blushes when she realizes what we are talking about. She then tries to hide her face behind her coffee mug as she makes her way back upstairs.

“Those two have been inseparable since they got back together,” says Selena. “I hope someday I find a guy like Charls. Or Michael.”

I smile. Michael was pretty amazing. I wouldn’t give him up for the world.

Screenshot-4265 (2)

Speaking of which, I hadn’t told him about the party. After washing the last of the baking dishes, I dial up his number and leave a message telling him about the party. I then go to my room to get ready.

Screenshot-5023 (2)

By the time, I get ready and head back downstairs, the party has already started. I realize that I didn’t exactly know the time it was starting, but I didn’t realize it was starting so soon. Then again, I did wake up late, so maybe it was later than I thought.

Screenshot-5032 (2)

Soon, the sorority girls of Delta Sigma show up walking with the boys of Eta Phi Nu. I even spot Kelsy from Kappa Alpha Omega and I greet her nicely, hoping it will clear the air from last time.

Screenshot-5036 (2)

Michael shows up an hour later, followed by someone I was not expect to see at all.

Screenshot-5049 (2)

“Kendal,” I say looking a bit taken aback. “What are you doing here?”

Kendal swallows. “I was hoping we could talk.”

I sigh and looking toward the ground. “I really don’t think that there is anything left to talk about.”

“But there is.”

Screenshot-5056 (2)

“Elizabeth, you were right about what you said. I-I wasn’t the best boyfriend to you or a good friend. I didn’t realize the pressure you felt when we were together and though I didn’t see it at first, I understand now how you must have felt. I’m so sorry.”

I shrug. “It’s okay. It is what it is. You don’t have to be sorry for feeling the way you feel.”

“But I do. I made you feel like you had to be a certain way to be with me, and that is far from the truth. Elizabeth, I like you just as you are.”

Screenshot-5053 (2)

“T-thank you.” It does feel nice to hear him finally say that. “Well, I should get back to the party. Please feel free to stick around if you like.” I start to leave, but Kendal steps in my way.

Screenshot-5054 (2)

“Elizabeth wait,” he says. “I can’t let you just go again.”

I frown. “What?”

“It was a mistake for me to end things the way I did last year with you. I let you walk away and then we lost each other.” Kendal sighs. “I don’t want to make that same mistake again. Elizabeth, I-I love you.”

Screenshot-5052 (2)

I swallow sharply. “Oh no,” I say to myself. This was not the conversation I wanted to be having with Michael only a few feet from me. I could see him watching Kendal and I from down the hall.

“Kendal, that’s really sweet, but you know I can’t. I’m with Michael.”

“Y-yes, I-I know you are, but that doesn’t change the way we feel. You and I have something Elizabeth. Something I am not willing to give up.”

“But you have to Kendal.” I exhale deeply. “You and I “had” something. Past tense. But now we don’t. I’m with Michael now and I love him with all my heart. This isn’t just a fling Kendal, it’s the real deal with us.”

Screenshot-5067 (2)

Kendal’s face falls slightly and I can’t help but feel a bit guilty. I can tell that he really cares about me, but at the same time I can’t lie to him. There was no chance for us, and I don’t want to give him false hope.

“I’m really sorry,” I say, giving his hand a squeeze. “I really do hope you find someone else that makes you happy.”

“Kendal nods slowly. “I hope so too, but no one can hold a candle to you, Elizabeth.” He then lifts my hand and kisses it gently, before turning and walking back down the stairs of the porch.

Screenshot-5079 (2)

The night gets calmer afterwards. Toward the end, I catch up with Carrie.

“I saw you with Kendal earlier,” she says. “I hope you let him down gently.”

I smile. “I did. It wasn’t easy though. First loves are hard to get over.”

“No surprise there. Though I do hope mine lasts.”

“You and Ryder?”

Carrie nods.

“I think you will. There is something special about the two of you.”

Carrie blushes. “Thanks.”

“I hope we’ll be seeing you around the house next year,” I say, giving her a sly smile and she laughs.

“Hey, a deal is a deal.”

Screenshot-5354 (2)

After snapping some pictures with Abby and others at the party, I head out into the night with Michael. Being my last day on campus, I figure it would be nice to spend some alone time with him. It was a bit noisy in the house and I didn’t know how long the party was going to last.

Michael and I climb into my Audi and together we drive over to his apartment.

Screenshot-5710 (2)

And boy was it the best idea. I am thrilled to be resting in Michael’s arms as we watch TV on his couch.

“So, you’re going to be a senior next fall,” I say with a grin.

Michael laughs. “I know, it’s crazy.”

“You figured out what branch of computer science you want to major in?”

“As a matter of fact, yes. I’m majoring in interactive media design.”

“That sounds good. I definitely think you have a nag for gaming.”

Michael beams. “Why, thank you, miss,” he says, and I chuckle.

Screenshot-5719 (2)

“And how about you? Have you sent out your query yet?”

I nod. “I sent it to five agents yesterday. I probably won’t hear from them until the end of the summer.”

“Sounds like long wait.”

“Tell me about it.”

Screenshot-5718 (2)

I turn over to Michael and lean in closer. “I could use a big distraction.”

Michael grins. “Oh yah? How so?”

“If you come and visit me over break.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

Screenshot-5714 (2)

And then Michael presses his lips upon mine and we are once again lost in each other’s arms. As we kiss, I marvel at what a year this has been. I can’t believe it is already coming to an end and that next fall I will already be a junior. Strange enough, I am actually not afraid. I have been through so much over the past two years that I feel confident to take on anything.

Yes, right now as I sit here kissing the man I love and finishing another school year, the future was looking bright.

(Hey my readers! Thank you so much for reading my story! One more chapter of Lizzie and Abby and that will be the end their college years! I will then be doing a time skip into the summer of their college graduation. Stay tuned! 🙂 )

Year 2: Chapter 49: The Greek Olympics!: Part 2 (Lizzie’s POV)

Screenshot-4327 (2)

The next few weeks go by rather quickly. I am still so surprised that soon the quarter will be coming to an end. I am ready for summer break. With everything going on, I yearn to be back at home with my family. I especially want to see Judy, for I didn’t get to spend much time with her over spring break. She is growing so fast! Already a seventh grader, she will be starting eight grade already in the fall! Only one year until she is in high school! It’s crazy!

During the next few weeks, I spend most of my time studying and practicing my public relations presentation. It is only a couple weeks away, along with finals week. But there is one event that sneaks up on me. The Greek Olympics!

Screenshot-4332 (2)

With everyone off to class in the morning, I enjoy a glazed donut for breakfast. I’m not for having unhealthy breakfasts, but I am kind of in a bit of a hurry. I wolf it down and then head on my way.

Screenshot-4004 (2)

With the excitement of the Olympics, I am surprised that I am able to focus during all of my classes. I even am able to take good notes on the final unit of astronomy, the geology of Mars and predictions of the future. Very intriguing indeed.

Screenshot-4053 (2)

I then head home after my last class and have a bit of a study session with Janice and later Kimberly, before Abby arrives home. With my stomach full of nerves, we then head to the Greek Olympics.

Screenshot-4350 (2)

The event area looks very nice and I have to applaud the hard work of the people who set everything up. As nervous as I am, I can’t wait for everything to begin.

Screenshot-4367 (2)

And begin it does, starting off with the rock climbing challenge. Janice wins first place, putting us off to a great start. I don’t think the Alpha Beta Phis were expecting this, with the glare on Ashley’s face being any indication.

Screenshot-4372 (2)

There is also a shootout competition, in which Janice and Tatyana ruled at as well. I cannot deny that Brad and Charls put up quite a fight. Though Charls did seem a bit distracted by staring at Abby, something which Brad did not take kindly to. It seemed that Abby was still in the middle of her love triangle with them.

Screenshot-4377 (2)

Soon it was time to take my first event, which was the golfing event. I had not really been planning to do it, but Abby convinced me to, claiming I was the only one who had really done golf before.

Well by the end, I did manage to score second place just behind Kelsy. Definitely not too shabby!

Screenshot-4381 (2) 2

There also happens to be a pie eating contest, curtesy of the Eta Phi Nus. I end up being chosen for the contest and surprisingly end up winning! The Beta Gamma Kappas were definitely doing better than I had originally expected!

Screenshot-4384 (2) 2

Afterwards the competition plays along pretty well. Janice wins the table tennis competition and Abby wins her shoot out against Clare. It is actually pretty amusing to see Clare dive to the ground and miss. Janice also rules at the archery competition and I am cheering for us being on a role.

Screenshot-4409 (2)

It is not long before it is my time to represent us again. The mechanical bull event had finally arrived. Janice and Abby all gave me words of encouragement as I slipped my leg over the saddle. I am terribly nervous that I am going to do terrible, but I totally surprise myself. I manage to stay on long enough, beating fellow Alpha Annya member, Dean, by five seconds! You could just see the shock in Clare’s eyes. She looked like she wanted to explode!

Screenshot-4402 (2)

After that event, our future housemother, (hopefully) Mrs. Krutz, announces that we will reconvene the Greek Olympics again tomorrow at three.

I walk over to the picnic area where Tatyana and Kimberly are each munching on snow cones.

“You did a great job, Lizzie!” Kimberly says, while licking her cone.

“Totally! I thought you were going to fall off any second!” Tatyana says laughing.

I chuckle. “I was! It took everything in me not to let go!”

Kimberly grins. “You want to head over to the dining hall to celebrate?”

I shake my head. “I think I’m going to head back to the house. Big day tomorrow.” And honestly, I just wanted to rest. I had been spending the whole week studying and I really just needed some sleep.

Screenshot-5064 (2)

Of course, when I get home, I am a bit surprised to find people lounging about and hanging out. I even spot Clare lurking in the corner. What were they all doing here?

Whatever the case, I don’t have time for them. I need to get some sleep. A lot of it.

Screenshot-4871 (2)

Truthfully, my mind had begun to wonder to Michael again. I had been able to keep it at bay by focusing on my public relations presentation and studying for finals, but without either to occupy me, I didn’t know how I was going to cope. I really do miss talking to Michael. So much!

Screenshot-5692 (2)

I pull out my phone and check it again for the zillionth time. Still no messages. I sigh. This was becoming torture. I didn’t think I could go like this any longer with no answers. I had to try calling him again.

Turning my phone over, I dial his number. It rings several times and then goes to voicemail.

Screenshot-5696 (2)

I call him five more times before finally caving. I have been resisting leaving voicemails because I don’t want to seem overbearing, but I can’t take it anymore. I have to say something.

“Michael. I know you are there.” I pause for a moment and then sigh. “Look, this has gone on long enough. I get that you are mad at me and that we are in a confusing place, but you need to talk to me. We can’t just leave things like this. Yes, it’s true that I had some feelings for Kendal, but it is to be expected. Kendal was the first guy I was ever with, but it’s over. He and I are done and I am with you now. At least, I hope I still am.” I sigh again. “Michael, I love you and only you, and I don’t want to be with anyone else. So please call me so we can figure this all out. I-I miss you…and I know you miss me too. So, call me.”

I then click off my phone and place it on my bedside table.

Screenshot-4510 (2)

I know it is probably a lost cause, but I had to try. Not seeing or speaking to Michael is driving me crazy.

As I crawl into bed, I only hope that I will finally hear from him. I then watch the phone on my bedside table, until I finally drift off to sleep.

Screenshot-3844 (2)

I wake up in that next morning feeling like my phone is ringing. I glance down at it and see that I still have no messages. Maybe Michael hadn’t gotten my message. Or maybe he just didn’t care. I rub my face in frustration. Why did relationships have to be so difficult?

Screenshot-4231 (2)

I decide what I need is some nourishment, so I go downstairs into the kitchen to eat. I spot Abby in the dining room and join her with another one of Selena’s cinnamon buns. She cooked them again last morning and I hadn’t gotten around to eating one. They are amazing.

“Morning,” I say, taking a seat at the table. “You excited for the finals today?”

Abby swallows her bite of a soft pretzel stick. “You bet! With luck, tonight we could be an official sorority.”

“Or we could just be girls renting a house on campus,” I say taking a bite of my cinnamon bun.

Screenshot-4234 (2)

“Hey, no negativity,” Janice says, while walking into the dining room. “That kind of talk isn’t going to get us anywhere.”

“Yah Liz.” Abby swallows her last bite of pretzel. “What gives?”

I look at them both sheepishly. “I’m sorry. I guess I’m just trying to be realistic.”

“Well, I want to focus on the positive,” says Abby. “We are tied with the Alpha Beta Phis, so that means we have a good chance of winning.”

Screenshot-4237 (2)

“That’s true.” I cut into my bun with my fork. “Do we even know what the last challenge is?”

Abby shrugs her head. “Sort of. I think it is some kind of a treasure hunt. Moana was kind of tight-lipped about it. Something about Ashley wanting to keep it secret.”

Janice rolls her eyes. “I wonder why. Anything to give us a lower advantage.”

Screenshot-4246 (2)

“I think it’s a good sign!” Abby says smiling.

I frown. “How so?”

“It means that she’s nervous. You saw the look on her face yesterday. She was absolutely shocked that we tied with them! And if Clare’s threat showed me anything, it’s that they are a bit worried.”

Screenshot-4242 (2)

Janice looks up. “Clare’s threat?”

“Yah. She came to the party yesterday to ask us to drop out. Something about wanting to save us the humiliation of losing today.”

Janice snickers. “More like save them humiliation.”

Screenshot-4244 (2)

I laugh. “Well, I guess if they are that scared, it is a good sign for us. Maybe we just might bet them after all. I wonder what the treasure hunt will entail.”

Abby perks up. “Well, what I do know, is that it is going to be a partner thing again.”

Janice grins. “I think we should chose Lizzie as part of the group. If it’s a scavenger hunt, there will be riddles and I think Lizzie will be most suited to solve them.”

I laugh. “True. I do love riddles.”

“And I think Abby is pretty good at knowing her way around town. You two would be a perfect duo.”

Abby nudges my shoulder. “I can’t argue with that,” she says, and I chuckle.

Screenshot-4248 (2)

Just then, we hear a funky sound like that of a motorcycle engine. Janice picks up her phone sheepishly. “My new texting tone.”

Abby and I try to resist laughing.

“It’s Greg. He’s just wishing me luck for today.”

Abby smirks. “You two sure have been pretty close this whole semester. It’s a big improvement from last year.”

Janice nods. “Yah, he was just going through some hard stuff. I’m glad he was finally able to talk to me about it.” Janice then looks up. “How are you two doing in that department?”

Screenshot-4250 (2)

I roll my eyes. “Don’t even ask. I’ve called Michael so much that my hands are tired. He just won’t talk to me.”

“Have you tried going to see him?” Janice asks. “That’s what I did with Greg.”

“I don’t know. I don’t want to push him. I want him to come to me when he is ready. I just wish it was sooner.”

Abby smiles at me sadly. “I know what you mean. I still haven’t heard back from Charls either.”

Screenshot-4255 (2)

I pat her shoulder. “I’m sorry. Although I am a little surprised he hasn’t tried to talk to you.”

Janice takes another bite of her bun. “Yah, he couldn’t seem to take his eyes off you yesterday.”

“I know.” Abby sighs. “I feel like he wants to talk to me, but something is holding him back.”

“Or someone,” Janice remarks.

Abby frowns. “You mean Brad?”

“Who else? I mean, you did break things off with him, right?”

Abby nods.

“Then he probably isn’t too happy about it.”

“Maybe not, but I don’t think that’s it.” Abby sits back. “After we talked, Brad said that Charls would never get back with a girl that stepped out on him.”

Screenshot-4252 (2)

I scoff. “I don’t think you should be listening to anything Brad says. He will probably say anything to break you and Charls apart. He still wants you.”

“Yah Abby.” Janice stuffs the last piece of her cinnamon bun into her mouth. “This is between you and Charls, so don’t let Brad keep you from talking to him. Just do it.” She then gives me a look. “That goes for you too, Liz.”

I roll my eyes and then rise from my chair. “Well, I left him a message on his cell, so hopefully he’ll get back to me. If not, maybe I’ll just have to take your advice.”

Screenshot-4259 (2)

Abby follows me into the kitchen where Tatyana is standing nearby the counter.

“Hey, Abby,” she says, walking up to her. “I have something I want to say.”

Abby smiles. “Sure, what’s up?”

“I want to apologize for how I’ve been the past few weeks. I know I’ve kind of been a bit of downer. I realize now that you only did what you did because you were trying to help. I couldn’t have made that easy for you.”

Abby waves her hand. “Hey, I don’t blame you. Or any of you guys, actually. It was pretty extreme for me to make a bet like that. I just wanted so badly for us to get our charter back, that I was desperate. I should have talked to you all first.”

“Yah, but Ashley might have changed her mind. You did what you felt was right. Even if it was a bit over the top.”

They both laugh. “All forgiven?” Tatyana asks, and Abby gives her a hug.

“All forgiven.”

I smile. Now that was some definite sisterhood right there.

Screenshot-4265 (2)

Just as I am about to head back up to my room, I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket. I glance down and see I have missed a call from Michael! Feeling my stomach tingling, I quickly dial him back.

I dial him back almost five times before giving up again. I then check my voicemail, but there are no new messages. I can’t help but feel disappointed. Why hadn’t he left a message? Was it because he was upset that I didn’t pick up? Or was it that he had just been calling to end things? Tell me to leave him alone?

My mind was going miles a minute. Maybe Janet was right. Maybe I just needed to go talk to him.

Screenshot-4431 (2)

After taking a shower and getting dressed, I drive over to Michael’s apartment and knock on the door. I wait there for almost ten minutes before realizing he really isn’t there. Feeling disappoint and extremely frustrated, I make my way back home. I then go into the computer room and log onto one of the computers. I really don’t feel like being in my room right now.

I boot up my manuscript and finish editing my last two chapters. In the end, I have Paul and Serena kissing passionately on the doorstep of his townhouse. If only my love live could end as such.

I then move onto drafting my query letter. After doing some research, I had found four agents that I felt could potential be the right one for me. I am hoping to send the letters off to them before the month of June ends.

Screenshot-4433 (2)

I end up spending the duration of the day typing away at the computer. I finish drafting and editing my query letter and then send a copy to Carrie. I really would like to get a second opinion.

Just then, the door opens and Janice comes walking in.

Screenshot-4436 (2)

“Hey you, it’s time to head out. The final event is starting in twenty minutes.”

I look up. “Wow, it’s that time already?”

“Yup, but I’m not surprised that you don’t know what with you plugged into your story like that. You finished with the edit yet?”

Screenshot-4435 (2)

“As a matter of fact, yes. I actually just finished drafting up my query letter.” I click save and then log off the computer. “I sent a copy to Carrie to look at before I send it off.”

Janice chuckles. “I swear, Carrie is like your personal agent.”

“I know, right?”

I then rise from my chair and follow Janice out.

Screenshot-4349 (2)

Everyone is all gathered by the sidewalk when we arrive. Janice and Abby quickly change into workout clothes, but I decide to stay in my outfit. In five minutes, Mrs. Krutz waves to get our attention.

“All right! Welcome to the final day of the Greek Olympics! The two sororities competing today, are the Alpha Beta Phis and the upcoming sorority Beta Gamma Kappa!” We all cheer and Moana and the Delta Sigmas cheer even louder in support.

“The final event today, is a scavenger hunt. The two remaining sororities will pick two people to represent them and participate in the hunt. The two participants will have to follow clues to find fifteen items that have been scattered throughout the Aberdale U campus and downtown. Each item will have a ribbon corresponding to the sorority’s colors and a new clue leading to next location. Whichever sorority finds all the items and returns here first, wins the competition and the Greek Olympics!”

I feel my nerves kicking in. So this was going to be a race. I glance over at Abby and she gives me a wink.

Mrs. Krutz then hands Abby and I walkie talkies along with two strips of paper, and does the same for Ashley and Clare.

“These are for you all to communicate with each other along the way,” she says. “Now, happy hunting!”

Screenshot-5500 (2)

Abby and I then nod to each other and take off down the sidewalk. As I hurry down the pavement, I glance down at my first clue written on the strip of paper. It reads:

“Come find me if you crave knowledge, of interstellar work at college.”

I close my eyes thinking for a moment. “The science building!” I then think. However, that can’t be it. “Interstellar work…”

I then open my eyes. It has to be the constellation lookout. I then hurry over to the grounds where a large telescope lies behind a gated fence. Slipping inside, I spot an icon of a miniature rocket, lying on a nearby table with a pink and silver ribbon sticking out of it. Beside it is a replica with a red and white ribbon; the color for the Alpha Beta Phis. Some students nearby working with the telescope wave to me.

As I pick up the icon, a rolled-up piece of paper slips out.

It reads:

“A place to hear an intellectual speech or just kick back and chill with your peeps.”

I can’t help but laugh at that. I can tell it was written by someone from Eta Phi Nu. It totally sounds like something Robbie would write.

Screenshot-5418 (2)

I figure that the clue is talking about the student union building, so I head right over. I also figure I should give Abby an update.

“Found the first item at the science building telescope grounds,” I call into the walkie talkie. “I’m onto the second clue now.”

“Got it!” Abby calls. “I found the first item at R.E.D club, but I’m having trouble with the second. It says ‘“A place of food galore, with shelves of food lined to the doors.’”  Are they talking about the downtown supermarket or the dining hall?”

“Hmm, I’d check the supermarket first. They have more shelves of food than the dining hall.”

“All right, check in later!”

I push my walkie talkie into my pocket and start searching the student union building.

I don’t find the icon upstairs, so I start looking in the classrooms downstairs. All of the rooms are locked except for the one which I find my icon in. It is an icon of a mini apple, sitting on one of the tables. After pulling out the clue, I scan it over and figure out the next location, the library.

Screenshot-3906 (2)

I continue along collecting the items until I have collected six. Since Abby and I had split up to cover more ground, I figure with luck, the next item will be my last.

The seventh item I find, is a mini camera icon in the photo booth of the downtown arcade. I am over joyed thinking it is time for me to head back, but then I see a clue fall out of it. Looks like I got the final item. I quickly read it over:

“If you enjoy tales of adventurous battles of villains and heroes, this place will excite you from your head to your toes.”

“I’m on to find the last item,” I call into the walkie talkie. “I’ll be back to the arena in fifteen minutes.” I was definitely getting my daily workout. I wait to hear back from Abby, but there is too much static. So, I decide to just be on my way.

Screenshot-5598 (2)

I arrive in three minutes, since the comic shop is not too far from the arcade. With luck, I can find the item and head back before Clare and Ashley. With the last item I had found, their item had still been there. Meaning, we had a good chance of winning the Greek Olympics!

Screenshot-5098 (2)

I walk in expecting to see my icon sitting on the counter, but I don’t see it anywhere. I then start searching throughout the building. I check all the tables and then head back into the video game room to look. But even with all that, the icon is nowhere in sight.

Screenshot-5099 (2)

The area is pretty bare, so there is really no one for me to ask about it. I look around again for the third time before becoming a bit restless. I have wasted almost fifteen minutes and the icon isn’t turning up anywhere. I try to give Abby a call to let her know what is going on, but my walkie talkie doesn’t seem to be working anymore. I was at a loss for what to do. Where could the icon have gone?

Screenshot-5101 (2)

“Lizzie,” someone then says from behind me.

I turn around and then feel my heart nearly jump out of my chest.

Screenshot-5105 (2)

I swallow hard. It is so strange to be talking to him after all this time. As much as I wanted to, I felt at a loss for words.

“H-how are you?” I ask. It’s such a bland question, but I can’t think of anything else to say. My mind feels like it is racing.

“I’m all right,” he says.

We both then stare at each other in silence for almost a minute. The only sound is the cashier behind us returning to its register.

“I got your message, yesterday,” Michael then says.

I nod. “I-I saw your missed call and I tried to call you back.” I cough slightly, trying to bring back my nerve. “You didn’t pick up, so I-I d-dropped by your place. You weren’t there.”

Screenshot-5108 (2)

Michael nods. “Yah, I’ve been out today. First at the library and then here.”

We are both then quiet again. I can feel my hands tingling fiercely at my sides. All this silence is killing me. I really can’t take all the tension.

I then remember what I was doing here. I needed to find the last icon. I then start to turn away from him.

“Well, I-I have to go. I’m in the middle of the Greek final competition-”

“Lizzie, wait.”

Screenshot-5126 (2)

Before I can even ask why, Michael pulls me to him and kisses me. I nearly lose my balance as I stumble onto him in surprise, and then once again like always, my body begins to heat up and I feel my heart pounding in my chest. His arms then wrap around me gently and I feel that sensation he always gives me when I am in his arms; that feeling of warmth and security, as his soft and gentle lips, move rapidly upon mine. I feel his tongue touch mine tenderly and I pull him closer as the heat between us increases.

I am so weakened by his sudden kiss, that I feel my knees almost buckle beneath me. I didn’t realize how much I have missed him until this moment. It’s like everything around me has vanished and all that exists is Michael and me.

Screenshot-5127 (2)

When he finally moves his lips from mine, I cling onto him feeling dazed. And looking at him, I can tell he feels the same way.

“I’ve miss you so much,” I whisper, even shocking myself.

Michael grins. “And I you.” He then kisses me again.

Screenshot-5125 (2)

“I’m so sorry about everything with Kendal,” I say through his gentle kisses upon my lips.

“Lizzie, I don’t care about Kendal,” he whispers back.

“I know,” I whisper back, “but I need you to know, that there is nothing between him and me. I don’t love Kendal.” I pause as he leads a trail of kisses toward my neck. “I love you, Michael.” I am barely able to say that, for the kisses he is giving me, are sending warm tingles down my spine.

“I love you too,” he says, and he presses his lips against mine once again. We then kiss furiously in full view of everyone standing outside the comic bookshop. And funny, but I don’t seem to care.

Screenshot-5130 (2)

When we finally stop, I don’t even know how long we’ve been standing there. I have completely lost track of time.

“Oh my gosh, I have to go!” I say looking alarmed. “I was supposed to be going back to the Greek arena a while ago.” I then remember my dilemma. “Then again, I don’t know if it matters if I can’t find the last item. I’ve looked all over the comic shop and I can’t find it. We’ve probably already lost.”

Michael frowns. “What item?”

I then explain to him the whole situation with the scavenger hunt and the missing icon.

“You know, earlier I saw some girl come in here and take some action figure looking thing that was sitting on the counter. It had a red and blue ribbon tied around it.”

Screenshot-5118 (2)

My eyes widen. “Yes, that was the one for the Alpha Beta Phis. Did you see one next to it with a pink and silver ribbon?”

“I did, but that girl took it.”

My jaw drops. “What? She took both of them?”

“Yah. I thought it was weird, but I didn’t think much about it. I didn’t really see her face, but I know she was blonde.”

I shake my head. I can’t believe what I am hearing. I’ll bet anything that the girl was probably Ashley or Clare. I wouldn’t put it past them to cheat.

Screenshot-5130 (2)

“Well, that means that I have been wasting my time looking for it,” I say, heaving a sigh. “I might as well just head back.” I was feeling a bit of dread sinking into my chest.

“I’ll walk you.”

I smile. “You don’t have to do that.”

Michael moves closer and gives me a quick peck on my lips. “I want to.”

He then takes my hand into his and we walk out through the store doors together.

Year 2: Chapter 46: Broken Off (Lizzie & Abby’s POV)

Lizzie’s POV

Screenshot-5601 (2)

I still haven’t heard back from Kendal or Michael. I completely understand why Michael won’t speak to me, but why is Kendal not answering? With all the weirdness that had been going on with Michael and me, I would have thought he would jump at the chance to talk things over. Now he was avoiding me, just like last year. I can’t help but resent him slightly for this. All I had wanted to do was figure things out and he won’t even give me that.

With Michael, I keep finding myself going to all the places that we always frequented, even when I’m not trying. I first find myself at the comic store flipping through books while scanning the store for him. Of course, he isn’t there.

Screenshot-5587 (2)

I also head to the downtown theater when I hear they are showing a new festival film. I am hoping that Michael couldn’t resist catching a showing of the movie on premiere night, but I am unlucky. Michael is nowhere to be found, as I sit in the theater alone. I try to still enjoy myself, but I can’t. There was just something special about Michael and I seeing movies there together. Without him, it felt off.

Screenshot-4003 (2)

Staying focused in class, is also no picnic. With everything happening with Michael and Kendal and also the Beta Gamma Kappas, I feel like I have no room to think. Maybe doing the sorority was a bad idea. With Abby’s idea of us competing in the Greek Olympics, everyone at the sorority house was furious with her. They all felt betrayed as if Abby had let them all down. I didn’t feel that way, but there was nothing I could do to convince them.

After class on Friday in Mid-May, I finally give my professor my answer, agreeing to do the internship.

“I’m sorry it took so long to answer,” I tell him. “There has been a lot going on.”

“Yes, I heard about the situation with the fire.”

Geez, even teachers knew about it?

“Yes, it was most unfortunate that someone would play such a prank on us.”

Screenshot-3998 (2)

“Well, I hope things work out for you,” he says, while packing up his things. “I really do think your sorority has a lot of potential. Especially with a girl like you among the members.”

I smile. “Thank you, professor,” I say, and then make my exit.

Screenshot-4995 (2)

I arrive home fifteen minutes later feeling exhausted. It feels like it has been a long week. I am totally ready for school to be over and for me to be on summer break. For the first time, I am really looking forward to it.

As I walk in through the door I pause to listen. The house is totally still, which is unusual. There is normally always some noise in the house.

“Anyone home?” I call.

“In here,” says a voice from the dining room.

Screenshot-3957 (2)

Tatyana is reading at the table. She gets up when she seems me come in. “I was just doing a bit of studying-oh it’s you.”

I frown. “Who did you think it was? Abby?”

Tatyana looks uncomfortable. “Maybe.”

I sigh. “You still giving her the cold shoulder?”

Tatyana shrugs. “I don’t mean to, but she did kind of put us all in a tight spot. I mean she didn’t even talk to us first before making that bet.”

Screenshot-3959 (2)

I nod. “I know, but I think she was just thinking on her feet. I think Ashley put her on the spot and she just panicked and came up with something quick. Granted it may have not been the best idea, but she was just trying to help.”

Tatyana looks down. “I suppose.”

I look at her curiously. “Are you sure this is just about the bet?”

Screenshot-3960 (2)

Tatyana lifts up her hands. “I guess not. I’ve been a little unsure about this whole sorority thing since the Greek party. People have been saying a lot of things.”

“Hey, people are going to say a lot of things about us. So what? They aren’t us. They don’t know anything about us. We know we didn’t start that fire and soon everyone will too. But right now, isn’t the time for us to be dividing. We need to stick together and work through this.”

Tatyana picks up her backpack and lifts her shoulders. “I just don’t know anymore. I’ll see you around Liz.” She then turns and makes her way out of the room and out through the front door.

After she leaves for what I suspect is class, I decide to take a trip to the library. With finals, only in three weeks, I want to get a head start on my studying. I had already finished my Public Relations project, so that was one thing less to worry about.

Screenshot-5345 (2)

I spend the next couple of hours reviewing my notes and doing Astronomy sample quizzes. I am thrilled that the information is sticking in my head with everything. I was struggling a bit with the past two chapters, so this study session is proving to be very beneficial.

After I finish, I decide to continue editing my story. I am on the last few chapters and should be done by June. The story is turning out great, although I am having a lot of difficulty editing the relationship dynamic between Sarah, George and Paul. It just feels so close to home.

Not being able to take it anymore, I decide to take a break. Right now, any type of romance fills me with agony.

Screenshot-5291 (2)

I walk over to the library sofa and take a seat while reading through my cell phone. My eyes keep scanning my messages to see if Michael has responded. Still no luck.

“Hey, Lizzie.”

I look up and see Abby standing in front of me. She smiles, but I can see in her eyes that she is in crisis. Her eyes are a bit red as she looks down at me.

“Hey you,” I say, and pat the seat next to me. “It’s been a while.”

Screenshot-5295 (2)

Abby takes a seat beside me. “It sure has been.”

I can tell she really wants to talk to me, but doesn’t know where to begin. She has that quiet look on her face.

“Tell me what’s going on,” I say.

Screenshot-5308 (2)

Abby sighs deeply. “What isn’t going on Liz! My life feels like a total wreck!”

I sit up straighter. “Is this about you and Charls?”

“I don’t even think there is a me and Charls. At least not anymore.”

I frown. “Why? What happened?”

“I-I kissed someone else.”

My eyes widen. “You what? Who?”

“Brad! How could you kiss Brad! Isn’t he the one that cheated on you with Clare last year?”

“Don’t remind me.”

Screenshot-5313 (2)

I shake my head. “I can’t believe you kissed Brad.”

“Neither can I! I wish it never happened. Now Charls isn’t speaking to me and Brad won’t stop calling me. Not to mention this whole thing with that bet with Ashley.” Abby lifts up her hands. “Everything is a wreck.”

“I think the girls are just a little frustrated. With all the rumors going around, it didn’t help when you made the bet. I think they are just losing faith.”

“Well that’s just great. So we’re losing pledges?”

Screenshot-5315 (2)

“Not yet, but we will if we don’t assure them that everything is going to be okay. We all seem to be losing faith in each other which is making us fall apart. If we want to keep going, we need to band together. And Abby, you need to grow a backbone. Stand up and show them all that you can lead.”

Abby looks up at me. “Well, that was some tough love.”

Screenshot-5299 (2)

I laugh. “A little, but it’s the truth. The girls need to see that you are their leader and can make the right decisions. If you honestly believe that this bet and starting this sorority was a good idea, you need to show them it was.”

“But, I don’t know that I believe it.”

I grin. “You’re just lacking a little faith. You’ll get it back. As for the Brad situation, I don’t know what to say. I’m kind of in the same boat. I didn’t kiss Kendal, but we might as well have. Michael thinks I’m still into him, so he broke up with me and won’t return any of my calls.”

Screenshot-5309 (2)

Abby nods. “Yah, I did see you two at Janice’s protest. I could tell he really wanted to talk to you, but then he just left.”

“Funny, I sensed that too. But he is hurting. I know it. I can’t blame him for not wanting to talk to me.”

“It would help if you knew who you wanted.”

“Oh, I know who I want,” I say, with a smile. “But what about you? Do you want Charls or Brad?”

“Of course, I want Charls! I don’t even know why I kissed Brad!”

Screenshot-5312 (2)

I stretch. “Maybe because you still have feelings for him.

Abby sighs. “Charls said that.”

“And maybe for a reason. Do you?”

Abby shrugs. “Maybe a little.”

“Then Maybe you need to sort out your feelings too.”

“I guess.” Abby looks at the floor. “I just miss Charls so much. I feel lost without him.”

I nod feeling my chest tighten. “I know the feeling.”

Screenshot-5317 (2)

We both then sit in silence for a few minutes. A woman’s voice comes over the intercom and announces that this library will be closing early today for cleaning. Abby and I both rise from the couch.

“We should head back to the house,” she says. “It’s getting late.”

I agree. “I think I’m going to sleep early today.”
Screenshot-5320 (2)

Just as I am about to leave, Abby leans in and gives me a hug. I can tell from it that she is very vulnerable right now. I hug her back, just as tightly.

“Thanks for listening.”

I smile. “That’s what I’m here for. I love you. Abs.”

“I love you too, Liz.”

We both then pull apart and then head for the library entrance together.

Abby’s POV

Screenshot-4515 (2)

Before talking to Lizzie, I had been a total mess. I could barely get out of bed and I even ended up missing almost three days of class. The whole thing with Charls had really taken a toll on me.

But after speaking with Lizzie in the library, it’s like I had a completely new outlook. Sure, things were still awful, but I felt like I could deal with it now. I start spending a lot of time painting and continue on with the special one I had been working on. Doing so was really helping with my pain and broken heart.

Screenshot-4520 (2)

Going to class was still hard, but I found it a little easier to concentrate. After all, finals are in three weeks and I want to end the quarter on a good note.

Screenshot-4535 (2)

My glass blowing class was really progressing and I was really liking the different artifacts we were making. Currently, I am making some vases for my mother.

Still, I know that I need to figure out the situation with Brad and Charls, but not as much as the thing with the Beta Gamma Kappas. Lizzie made me realize that I wasn’t ready to let go of our sorority, so that meant that we needed to find a way to band together and win the Greek Olympics.

Screenshot-4531 (2)

So on Saturday afternoon after I get out of my glass blowing class, I call up Lizzie.

“Get everyone to meet up at the beach,” I say to her. “I think it is about time we all talked.”

“How am I supposed to get everyone over there?” Lizzie asks.

“I don’t know, make up some excuse. It’s super important. Tell them it’s something about the house and us being in trouble.”

“All right, I’ll do my best. See you there.”

Screenshot-5480 (2)

After I get off the phone, I drive right over and wait at one of the picnic tables. Just to ease the tension, I had bought some picnic food from the downtown food mart just around the area.

Thirty minutes later, they all show up. I even spot Carrie walking with Lizzie. They must have been hanging out when I called.

I greet them all and call them over to the table. Janice sees the raw hot dogs in my grocery bag and snags them up. She then grills them on one of the beach grills and brings them back to the table.

Screenshot-5483 (2)

“Everyone dig in!” She says, and she grabs a bun to put her hot dog in.

Selena grabs a hot dog and places it in one of her buns. “So, what’s all this about? Lizzie said it had something to do with the house? Are we losing the rental?”

I shake my head. “No. Actually, I kind of just needed to get you all here to talk.”

Screenshot-5491 (2)

“Figures,” says Tatyana.

I sigh. “I’m sorry to lie to you guys, but it’s important. I want to formally apologize to all of you.”

Selena takes a bite of her hot dog and then coughs slightly. “What?” she squeezes out.

“I want to apologize for agreeing to that bet with Ashley without talking to you all first.” I pause for a moment. “What you have to know is that, I wasn’t trying to be uncaring, I just honestly came up with it on the spot. I was so desperate to get our charter back that I just said what I knew Ashley would fall for. That competition means the world to her and the Alpha Beta Phis. I can tell.”

Screenshot-5490 (2)

“I understand,” Selena says, with a smile. “But what are we going to do now?”

I smile. “The only thing we can do. We have to beat the Alpha Beta Phis at the Greek Olympics.”

Tatyana chokes. “How are we supposed to do that? They are vicious! I heard the three Alpha Beta Phi girls in my drama class talking and they are serious! They have been training for the past month!”

“Well then, we really need to get started.”

Screenshot-5494 (2)

Selena frowns. “But how are we going to be able to get up to their level in just a few weeks?”

I grin as I take a bite of my hot dog. “Well we do have an amazing physical trainer to train us.”

Janice laughs. “I assume you’re talking about me?”

“Please, Janice, you could put all of those Alpha Beta Phis girls to shame. You just need to show us some of your tricks. We all aren’t really out of shape, we just need some pointers.”

Screenshot-5492 (2)

Janice shrugs. “Well I don’t mind. It would be fun to train you maggots.”

Kimberly looks at me quietly and then sighs. “I guess I could talk to some people to get an idea of what the events for this year are. That way, we have an idea of what to train for.”

I clasp my hands together. “That’s a good idea! Very good idea!”

Carrie laughs. “Well, I can lend my moral support. Since I’m not a Beta Gamma Kappa yet.”

We all whip our heads around to look at her right after she says this.

Screenshot-5493 (2)

“Yet?” Lizzie looks intrigued. “Carrie, have you decided to pledge Beta Gamma Kappa?”

Carrie laughs. “No promises, but I will consider it. Especially, if you guys win.”

I give her a look. “What?”

“Consider it an incentive. Win the Greek Olympics, and you will get a sorority charter and a new pledge.”

Screenshot-5489 (2)

I laugh. “All right. So, is it a plan? Everyone on board?”

Everyone at the table looks at one another and then to me.

We are definitely on track!

Screenshot-5384 (2)

I am so excited as I climb into bed later that night. Finally, after weeks of despair, things were finally turning around. The Beta Gamma Kappas were on their way up and no one was going to stop us. Well, at least I hoped. Things may not be good anywhere else, but at least I had people to count on. My sisters.

Year 2: Chapter 36: A Night Out (Abby & Lizzie’s POV)

Abby’s POV

I’m surprised by how fast the month of January is going. It feels like it just started, but now it is already almost the end of the month. Only one week to go!

The date of the food/donation drive is almost here and I am so psyched! I have been having Tatyana and Selena pass out flyers, including giving some to Moana to pass around as well. The more publicity we can get, the better. Kimberly even said she would talk to someone on the campus newspaper and the campus radio about covering it. I have to say, she really has the making of being a marketer. Maybe I should keep her on retainer for my art. People will be buying my art in no time! Not that it will be that simple. It is no easy task breaking into the art scene, but I’m pretty sure Kimberly could be a big help.

As I am sitting in Astronomy Friday afternoon, I get a text from Charls,

-Hey babe! I miss you. You up for a night out tonight?

I smile. I have been giving him a bit of a hard time after the whole “fighting with Brad” incident. I did forgive him, but I was still a bit annoyed about the whole “macho man” routine. I am not some price to be won over. He should know that. And all Brad and I did was dance. I was just being polite. But nonetheless, it was over and I think it was time I give Charls a break.

I text him back,

-Sure. I’ll swing by your dorm at eight.

Love, Abby

Hey, who said the guy had to always pick the girl up?

When I get back home, I spend the rest of the evening painting and staring anxiously at the clock. It has been weeks since Charls and I had a night out and I was really looking forward it.

When the clock finally strikes 7:50pm, I am so happy to grab my purse and head out the door, calling “later” over my shoulder to Janice and Kimberly who are hanging out in the family room. Janice was apparently showing Kimberly how to play Halo. Oh yes, Janice’s sisters had apparently “permanently lent us” their Xbox 360 with the headsets and controllers. I’m telling you, I’m starting to think Janice may have some money up her sleeve.

I pick up Charls fifteen minutes later and boy do we have a night on the town! We first head to the diner to get fries and chocolate milkshakes (mine was strawberry), something I haven’t done in a long time. Charls has to restrain himself from laughing at my excitement. We then go back to the Grotto and play some pool for an hour. We would have stayed longer, but then I hear from someone nearby that R.E.D club is having half-off for club admission. So without hesitation, I drag Charls right over there.

And boy am I happy I did. The club is amazing. Although it’s not as jam packed, I have a blast dancing with Charls under the strobe lights. The DJ is playing some killer tunes and I don’t leave the dance floor for a break for at least an hour.

I don’t know if it is the music or the feeling of the room, but Charls and I suddenly get swept away in each other and end up making out hardcore on the dancefloor. And I mean hardcore. You would have thought that the two of us had been on something. I guess absence does make the heart grow fonder.

We dance for a while longer before Charls says he needs a pause break.

“I’m going to grab something from the bar. Do you want anything?”

I smile. “I’ll just take a club soda.”

Charls smirks and heads over to the bartender. I know that he is recalling how I was downing drinks here last year. Well, not this time around, especially with some weird guy dressed in blue that is on the dance floor practically groping everyone. I am about to laugh when I realize who it is…

I step back as he nearly falls on top of me.

His eyes look dazed as he tries to focus on me.

“Abby? Abby, is that you?” he asks. His voiced is slurred as he tries to form his sentence.

“Yes,” I say slowly.

He then grins and takes my hands into his. “Come on, dance with me.”

I blink and move back as he staggers in step. “Whoa, you are really wasted,” I say trying to hold back laughter. I have never ever seen him this drunk before.

Brad waves his head. “Just a bit buzzed. That’s all.”

I raise an eyebrow. “You’re more than just a bit buzzed Brad. You did come here with someone right?”

Brad shakes his head, while still trying to dance. “I walked over from the gym.”

“Right… Are you sure you didn’t drive here?”

“Nope. What’s with the third degree? Dance with me.” He grabs me again and this time I have some trouble getting him off. It’s funny to think that this time last year I would have loved to be grabbed by him like that.

I back myself slowly out of arms just in time to see Charls appear right behind me. He does not look happy. At all.

“What’s going on?” he says firmly.

“Well, I think your frat president is a bit drunk.”

“No kidding.”

Brad shakes his head. “N-no I’m n-not,” he says and stumbles backwards almost falling on the girl dancing beside him.

I glance at Charls. “I think we should take him back.”

Charls gives me a look of surprise. “What?”

“I said we should take him back to the frat house. It’s getting late anyway.” My eyes are still glued to Charls who is trying to make his way over to a nearby couch.

Charls tilts his head to the side. “You want us to cut our date, just to take him back?”

I frown. “Well yah.”

“Because he’s your frat brother. We can’t just leave him here.”

“This isn’t the first time he has done this. He used to do this all the time last year. You know, the nights when he wasn’t with you?”

I know what he is getting at, which annoys me a bit.

“Nice,” I say giving Charls a look. “Do you really think this is the time to bring up him and Clare?”

“I’m sorry. I’m just trying to say that you don’t have to worry about him. He’ll be fine. He’ll probably just get some girl to help him back.”

I glance at the clock. “Charls, it’s almost the club’s closing time. I really think we should take him back.” I glance over at Brad who is practically doubling over. What on Earth possessed him to drink so much?

Charls looks at me hard for a minute and then sighs.

“Fine. Whatever.”

He looks totally pissed off, but I try to ignore it. We both then balance Brad’s arms on our shoulders and lead him out of the club to my car. It takes a few minutes, but we manage to push him into the backseat. Even drunk, Brad still has some strength left in him.

When we arrive back at the dorm, Brad opens the door to my car before I completely come to a stop. Charls has to jump out to support him so Brad doesn’t going falling to the ground. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem too grateful.

“Get off me Charrrlss,” he slurs. “I don’t need your help.”

Charls happy obliges. “Suit yourself.” He then let’s go and Brad almost topples onto the floor.

“Charls!” I say rushing over, but Brad manages to pick himself up. He then staggers over to the house slowly.

Just as he reaches the doorstep, he turns around and calls to me,

“Hey Abby, you want to come in? I’ll make it worth your while.”

I open my mouth, but Charls cuts me off.

“Brad, just get in there,” he says. I can tell he wants to say more, but isn’t because of me. Brad gives us one last smirk and then he finally makes it up the stairs (terribly) and into the house.

I turn to Charls afterward and smile. “Thanks, Charls. I know you really didn’t want to help.”

Charls rolls his eyes and shrugs. “Sure.”

He starts to turn in the direction of the house, but I pull him to me and give him a kiss.

“I’m sorry I cut our date. I just felt bad about leaving him there. He looked kind of pitiful.”

That seems to put a bit of a smirk on his face.

I laugh. “Raincheck?”

Charls moves a strand of my hair behind my ear and then kisses me gently. “All right.”

“Well, I better go make sure Brad doesn’t upchuck all over the place.” He gives me one last kiss and then he heads over to the doorstep.

I honestly do feel bad about cutting our date, but for some reason I just couldn’t leave Brad there. I know what happened between us, but I just felt really bad for him there. I don’t know. Ever since that night at the New Year’s Eve party, I have just noticed something different about him. He doesn’t seem like the same guy that cheated on me last year. Maybe he had changed. And if he had, shouldn’t I finally let him off the hook?

Whatever the case, I figure I’ll worry about it another day. I then jump into my car and drive off home.

Lizzie’s POV

I don’t see Kendal in the next writing club meeting. I find it a bit odd since we only had our reading the week before, but I figure maybe he is a bit bashful about the poem he read. It was really heartfelt and emotional, something I wasn’t even used to seeing in Kendal.

The weeks seem like they are flying by that it feels strange to me. January is already almost gone and February is upon us. Of course, that excites me, thinking about Valentine’s Day and sharing it with Michael, but I still can’t believe how fast time is flying.

Friday, I finish my Geology class after an exam on sedimentary rocks. I passed with flying colors! I am pretty proud too. I study for the past week for that test.

After class, I head straight to the library. With my philosophy paper, due on Monday, I decide it might be a good idea to finish it. I only have five pages left, so I figure I can get it done in the next few hours.

Sure enough, I finish in two hours and spend another forty minutes fact checking everything before saving a copy to my computer and flash drive. I’ll probably still go over it one more time before I turn it in on Monday. Yes, I am that paranoid.

I then decide to work on my novel some more. I have made myself a goal. I want this to be my last edit and then I am going to start querying this summer. I am very nervous about this, but I have to start somewhere. I have to try.

I really like how things are with my characters Serena, Paul and George. There is a great dynamic between the three of them. You can really see the dilemma she is in and that there is no right answer. The only thing a little awkward for me, are the “love” scenes. So, that was one thing that everyone seemed to attack me on. They weren’t sensual enough. You couldn’t feel the heat and passion between Serena and Paul and even with George. So I did my best to add it in. I don’t know, maybe it is due to the fact that I have never “made love” to anyone, but whatever the case, the changes I made seem to suit everyone. I gave some of my newly revised love scenes to the critique group and everyone seemed to love it. I still am getting used to the idea, but I must say, it even gets me a little hot and bothered.

I am so into my editing that I jump when I spot Kendal making his way over to me from far end of the library.

“Kendal!” I say, slamming my laptop down. I don’t know why I did that, but hopefully he didn’t notice.

Kendal smiles. “Hey Elizabeth, how are you?”

“I’m okay, you? I haven’t seen you at the writing club meetings.”

Kendal sighs. “Yes, I know. I’ve been pretty busy. I think I was being a tad optimistic when I decided to take on twenty credits this quarter.” He sets his bag down. “Mind if I sit?”

I shake my head. “Not at all.”

Kendal takes a seat across from me. “So, what brings you to the library today?”

“Well, I was finishing a paper from philosophy and then I decided to work on some of my story edits.”

Kendal looks intrigued. “Really? Care to have some feedback?”

I find myself blushing a bit. “Normally yes, but these chapters are a little…intense.” I clear my throat.

Kendal frowns. “What do you mean?”

“Well, I mean, sensual.”

“Oh.” Kendal smiles. “That’s okay with me. I still would love to hear what you have. If you don’t mind.”

I look at him for a few seconds and then sigh. “All right.” I then open my laptop and load it back to the page. “Here goes nothing.”

I then awkwardly read line by line the entire section that I had been working on, the love scene between Serena and George. It was supposed to happen later after the scene where she tells Paul that their relationship did not mean anything to her. Serena then goes home to where George is waiting for her. He asks her where she was and that he was worried sick about her. It had been raining heavily during her walk home, so she was completely soaked. Without answering his questions, she just jumps into his arms kissing him passionately, which then leads into a lovemaking session.

I read this section softly, so as not to attract attention to us. I know I am being a bit over the top, but I am a very private person when it comes to well…sex.

I clear my throat again. “Serena gripped the soft skin of George’s upper back as he continuously pressed himself onto her. The sounds of her staggered breathing echoed through the darkness of the room, silenced by him pressing his mouth against hers. “I love you,” he whispered into the warmth of her lips and they sank back against the satin sheets of his mattress.”

Kendal looks at me in silence, but then nods his head. “That-that was good. Very.” I can tell he is a bit flabbergasted and I can’t help but chuckle.

“You think so? It wasn’t too much?”

“On the contrary, I think it was just enough.”

Kendal nods. “I liked the way you show the passion between George and Serena. After all the tension between the two of them from all her sneaking off to Paul, she finally sets things right by realizing who she really wants to be with. The scene really shows the love that they share and the unresolved sexual tension that has been building between the two them.”

As much as I love Kendal’s interpretation, he is only half right. While it is true that Serena does love George and does make love to him, it is only because she is trying to rid herself of her thoughts of Paul. But if Kendal were to keep reading, he would see that within a few chapters, Serena goes running back to Paul and they have an even more passionate reunion.

However, I don’t want to ruin his excitement, so I just nod. “Very intuitive.”

Kendal coughs slightly. “Although, I must say, I didn’t know you could write scenes so passionately.”

I blush slightly. “Well, it did take quite a bit of rewriting and editing to get it right.”

“Well, you certainly wrote it perfectly. The scenes are filled with lust, passion and desire.” Strange, but as he says this, he gives me a funny look and his cheeks start to redden slightly.

I grin. “I actually didn’t think I would be able to tap into that. Especially since I have never been intimate like that with anyone.”

Kendal is still staring at me. “That doesn’t mean you still can’t feel. Or imagine what it would be like.”

I blink feeling a bit uneasy. “I um,” I start, but then stop when I see someone approach our table.

“Hey Lizzie,” says Michael. He then glances at Kendal and then back to me frowning. “What’s going on?”

“N-nothing,” I say tucking a strand of my hair behind my ear. “W-we were just talking about my novel.”

Michael nods. “Yes, how is that going by the way?”

“It’s going okay-”

“It’s going great,” Kendal jumps in. “She was just reading to me some of her chapter’s “love scenes.” They are pretty good.”

Michael’s eyebrows go up. “Love scenes?”

I wave my hand. “Just a scene from one of the chapters. It’s no big deal.”

Kendal rises from his seat. “But it is, Elizabeth. You’ve really tapped into something there that I think will resonate with the readers. There is so much passion in those scenes, which is very relatable to anyone with feelings running that deep.” He gives me that funny look again and then pulls his backpack over his shoulder.

“I’ll see you around, Elizabeth,” he says and then he walks off toward the library doors.

I then start packing up my bag as well.

“What…the…hell, was that?” Michael asks.

I look up. “What?”

“You read love scenes to Kendal?”

I sigh. “It wasn’t like that. He just wanted to help me with my book and that happened to be the scene I was working on. I wasn’t going to read them, but he insisted. So, I just read him that scene and that was it.”

“Why would you do that?” Michael looks confused. “Especially since he still has feelings for you?”

“He does not have feelings for me, Michael.”

“Have you seen the way that guy looks at you?”

“Yes, like a friend.”

“Yah right.”

Michael sighs. “Lizzie, or should I say Elizabeth.” I smirk at that. “I don’t see how you can’t see that Kendal still has feelings for you. Why else would a guy sit there and listen to you read him love scenes in the middle of a library?”

I smile and put my arms around Michael. “Michael, Kendal doesn’t have feelings for me. And even if he did, I don’t care because I am too busy being in love with you.” I give him a quick kiss. “I love you Michael, and Kendal knows that. It’s why we broke up in the first place; because he knew that I had feelings for you.”

“We are just friends Michael. Only friends. I promise.”

I them pull him into a hug before he can say anything.

“Also,” I whisper in his ear, “I was only able to write those scenes because of my feelings for you.”

Michael looks very amused. “Oh really?”

“Yes really.” I then glance at the wall clock in the library. It’s getting to seven. “Walk me to my car, kind sir?” I ask.

Michael smiles. “As you wish, my lady.”

We then walk hand in hand to my car out parked out front.

Year 2: Chapter 34: Tensions Arise (Abby’s POV)

The week goes by so quickly that even I am surprised. My classes are going well so far and I am getting more and more excited about my astronomy class. It’s weird when you really think about it and realize that we are such a small speck in the galaxy. I mean, what else is out there?

After classes on Friday, I hurry home and start tidying the house for our two new members. I really am excited. Tonight when we attend the Frat Party, we will be going as our own sorority!

Just as I am about check the mail, I get a call from Kimberly.

“Hey Abby! Have the girls showed up yet?”

“No, not yet. I’m about to check the mail.”

“Have you gone to see Moana yet? We really need to figure that whole thing out if we still want to be able to do the drive.”

I sigh. “I’m sorry. I’ll head over now. I have two hours to kill before the girls are supposed to be here.”

“All right, just don’t be back late.”

“Sure thing.”

I then hang up the phone and walk over to my car.

It’s a short drive over to the Delta Sigma house, about ten minutes to be exact. I enjoy the nice sunset as I pass by some open fields. Aberdale U really does have a very nice campus. Sometimes I forget when I am rushing about. It’s nice to take time to just look.

I am quite surprised to see that the Delta Sigmas have an amazing sorority house! Seriously! It even looks larger than the Alpha Beta Phis. I can’t help but wonder why they are living here and the Alpha Beta Phis aren’t.

I then make my way over to the door and knock. Hopefully the girls aren’t all out.

The front door opens and a girl with long dark brown and wearing red-tinted glasses answers.

“Hi, may I help you?” she asks, then squints at me slightly. “Wait, I know you. Abby Clawson right?”

I nod. “Yes. I was hoping I could come in and speak to Moana for a few minutes if she is in. It’s about the blood drive that we were collaborating on.”

The girl then nods. “Oh yes that. Come in.” She then leads me into the foyer.

I look around in awe at the large space. “Wow, your sorority house is amazing!”

She smiles. “Thank you. We do take pride in our house. It’s one of the oldest buildings on campus.”

“That’s neat.” I then look back at her. “So is Moana available to talk.”

She grins. “Oh yes. I’m sorry. I am Moana. I should have said that earlier. What did you want to discuss?”

I sigh. “As you know, something happened with the instruments used for the blood drive, so they had to cancel it. I was just hoping that we could turn our drive into a food and donation drive instead. People can donate canned or boxed food, clothes, shoes or anything else. The Salvation army has been having some trouble getting people to donate, so I figured that this would help them greatly.”

Moana look intrigued. “Hmm. That doesn’t sound like a bad idea.”

“We can also take money donations as well. They say that ten percent of those donations will go to Aberdale U.”

“Well that certainly sounds like a good plan,” says Moana. “I’ll discuss it with the rest of the girls and then let you know as soon as possible.”

“All right. Thank you again for doing this with the Beta Gamma Kappas.”

She nods. “The Delta Sigmas are delighted to lend their services.” Geez. I heard they were a bit formal, but this was seriously over the top.

I’m feeling pretty good about myself by the time I get home. I could still detect that Moana was a bit uneasy about us working together, but I was going to make sure that they didn’t regret it. We definitely need their vote for the Greek council and I am not going to let it slip through our fingers.

As I approach the door, I spot Selena Bell walking over from the sidewalk carrying several luggages.

“Hey!” she says cheerfully. “I hope I’m not too early!”

I smile. “Nope. You’re right on time. Come on in.”

Selena comes in and looks around in awe. “This place looks great!” she says. “I can’t believe this is the same house.”

“Neither can I. You definitely should thank Kimberly a ton. She really got the help to put all this together.”

I then walk Selena into the family room helping to bring in her luggages.

“Wow,” she says again. “I could really get used to this.”

I laugh. I’m pretty sure she is referring to the new décor from Kimberly and the television purchased by Janice’s sisters again. It came in during the week. I literally just came and everything was set up neatly. When I tried to ask Janice about it, she just told me to enjoy it and stop asking so many questions. I don’t know why she is being so secretive, but I have decided not to push it.

“I know what you mean,” I say to Selena. “The house has really come together.”

“Oh, it has! So who else is living here?”

“So far, it’s me, Lizzie, Janice, Kimberly, and now you and Tatyana.”

“Tatyana Jenkins? Oh I know her!” Selena looks excited. “She is in my drama class. I am taking it for an elective, but she is majoring in it. And let me tell you, she is an amazing actress! I really think she is going to be a star someday!”

Selena says all this so fast that I just blink at her and smile. “Well, I’m glad to hear it. You two will be bunking together.”

I decided to do this considering we are still looking for more pledges. In case we get another person to rent, at least there will be a room free.

Selena just nods. “That’s fine with me! I’m just so happy to be a part of your sorority! I was trying to pledge to Alpha Beta Phi back in September, but they said I wasn’t sorority material. The leader, Ashley, said my voice made her want to stab someone.”

I frown. “Wow, that’s cold! Not surprising from her though.”

Selena shrugs. “I know that I get on people’s nerves. My parents always tell me that I have way too much energy. I think that’s why they were so happy that I went to a college that was far from them. They’d never say it, but I know.”

I received so much information in that short speech that I don’t even know how to respond. “I, um, I’m sorry,” I say finally.

Selena shrugs. “No problem! I’m just happy to be here and a part of you guys.”

I help her lug her things up to her room and then we go back downstairs and into the dining room. I am surprised to see Kimberly siting with Tatyana. Lizzie was even chatting with her.

“When did you get here?” I ask.

Kimberly, who was reading from her bio chem textbook, looks up. “I could ask the same. I thought you were still at the Delta Sigma house.”

“No, I got back a while ago. I was just showing Selena around.” I look at Tatyana. “I’m sorry that I wasn’t here to see you in.”

Tatyana shakes her head. “No problem. Kimberly and Elizabeth have been very friendly. I am really starting to like it here already.”

We all chat for a few more minutes before the doorbell rings.

“Must be the boys,” Kimberly says, closing her textbook. “We should head off so we aren’t too late to the party.”

Sure enough, when I answer the door Charls and Michael are waiting for us. I call to everyone over my shoulder and then we all load up into my car and Charls’s.

As nervous as I am, I end up having a pretty good time at the party. We all manage to pile in through the door without Brad, Taylor or Clare noticing that we have come in. And with all the people there, it is easy for us to blend into the crowd. I am surprised to look over and see that even Lizzie is enjoying herself, grooving to the beat blaring from the speakers. I encourage everyone to mingle and soon we all disappear into the crowd of dancing partyers.

Somewhere through the night, I lose track of Charls and have to start searching for him. I of course get unlucky and reach for the wrong person.

“Charls,” I start, but then feel myself clam up. I am looking directly into Brad’s face.

He looks surprised. “Abby, I didn’t know you were coming tonight.”

“Oh, um,” I feel at a loss for words. “Well, Kim said something about it and I thought I would check it out. Also, Charls invited me.”

Technically that is not true, but I know Charls would have invited me if we hadn’t been going to crash.

I think that Brad is about to kick me out, but he doesn’t. Instead he says,

“Oh. Well it’s nice to see you. It’s been a while.”

I am so confused by his nice response. We have been on bad terms ever since the video of him and Clare last year and the whole cheating thing. Not to mention him twisting the story around to make himself the  victim. So what was up with all the niceness all of a sudden?

“W-well I guess it is nice to see you too,” I say back, not completely sure if I mean it. “How was your internship?”

Brad nods. “Good. It was nice to do something different, but it wasn’t too exciting considering it was with my father’s company. He own’s one of the largest banks in Wystera Hills.”

I frown. “Wystera Hills? Isn’t that where your parents live?”

Brad nods. “Yup.”

Funny, but that is also where Charls’s family lives as well. It makes it more obvious how long Charls and Brad have probably known each other.

“Well that’s cool that you got the opportunity,” I say.

Brad grins. “Well it wasn’t as if I wouldn’t have gotten it.”

I laugh. “Still. It’s pretty nice.”

Brad glances at the stereo and then raises a hand toward me.

“Care to dance?”

Just as he says this, Selena passes by giving me a thumbs up. Oh goodness. I definitely need to explain the kind of guy Brad really was.

Still, I don’t want to cause a scene or bring attention to us, so I agree. Brad looks thrilled, which is so weird for me.

We then start dancing, with Lizzie and Michael standing right by us. Lizzie mouths “what are you doing?” but I just wave her off. This was strange enough.

As we dance, Brad keeps getting closer and closer to me. I can’t help but give him a funny look. Were we just going to pretend like nothing happened between us?

I glance over toward the living room and see Charls taking a swig from the beer kegger. He downs the rest of his cup and then slowly turns in our direction. Some people have left the dancefloor leaving some space between him and us. He then locks eyes on Brad and me and I see a frown cross his forehead. Uh oh, that is not good.

He walks up to us saying, “Excuse me,” and then takes me by the hand and pulls me into his room. Brad looks a bit startled, and follows us inside.

“What the hell are you doing?” Brad asks.

Charls was still frowning. “That’s what I was going to ask. What where you doing to Abby?”

“We were just dancing.”

“Sure you were.”

I sigh. “It’s okay Charls, we really were just dancing.”

Brad rolls his eyes. “Yeah man, chill.”

Charls then turns to me. “You okay?”

“Yes, I’m fine,” I start, but Brad interrupts.

“Of course she’s fine! What is your deal?”

Charls takes my hand into his. “Come on. Let’s go.”

Brad moves in front of us. “I think Abby can decide for herself.”

“Brad,” I start, but then Charls doesn’t let me finish.

“Move Brad,” he says slowly. I feel my hands heating up. This was not going well.

When Brad doesn’t budge, Charls reaches around him to get the door handle. Before he can open it, Brad tackles him down to the ground.

“Brad stop it!” I yell, but I can tell he isn’t listening. He tries blow after blow at Charls’s face, but he blocks each one. At one point, Charls finally gets Brad’s head in a headlock. I let out a shriek and finally the bedroom door opens.

Michael hurries in, just as Charls tosses Brad onto the floor. Brad then gets up slowly glaring at him.

Michael looks back and forth between the two of them. “What’s going on?” he asks, but neither of them respond. Charls and Brad both just stare at each other like they want to kill each other.

I, however, am kind of embarrassed about this whole thing. As much as I appreciate Charls coming to my defense, this all wasn’t really necessary.

I sigh. “It’s okay Michael,” I say, and move toward the door.

“Abby,” Charls calls after me, but I hold up my hand.

“Charls, I’ll talk to you tomorrow,” I say, and then head out of the room.

I tell Lizzie and Janice that I am heading out and they call everyone to join us. I feel bad having to cut the party short, but I really needed to get out of there.

It’s a quiet drive home and all the while I am just staring out the window. My phone keeps beeping, but I don’t even glance down.

When we arrive home, I decide to check my cell. Charls has left five messages, the last one being the longest. He apologizes for the night saying he didn’t mean to start a fight with Brad. He then says he understands if I am upset and that I should just know that he loves me, which makes it so hard for me to be angry with him.

I debate texting him back, but decide to wait until tomorrow morning. Let him sweat it out a little. I then say goodnight to everyone and head straight up to bed. I only hope that no one else saw the fight or what it was about. The last thing the Beta Gamma Kappas needed was a scandal. Seriously, we had already been through enough.

Year 2: Chapter 21: Finals (Lizzie & Abby’s POV)

Lizzie’s POV

I spend the rest of my weekend studying like crazy. I then actually start to feel confident about my exams. The only class I am nervous about is Communications. Then again, my professor has been nicer to me since the Christmas bazaar we threw.

Speaking of which, I am so happy we were able to earn enough funds to give us a start.  After doing some research, I realize one of the next steps is getting a faculty member to be our “advisor,” and maybe eventually our “house mother.” Abby says she has it covered, so I decide to leave that detail her. She still has her heart set on the house she found, and I know she is going to do everything she can to secure it. Besides, I am too focused on studying to pass my finals.

I am still a bit worried when I walk into class on Monday, but after I begin taking my final, I start to grow some confidence. By the end of my last class, I leave the room feeling extremely relieved. My psych final was very challenging, but I have faith that my studying will get me the grade I know I deserve.

Afterwards, I head over to meet Michael at the comic book shop downtown. We have been meaning to go for quite a while, but with all of my classes and doing all the writing for my novel and Abby’s sorority info, I just hadn’t found the time. When we did hang, we always went straight to the arcade or the movie theater.

I wave to Michael who is sitting on the sofa reading, and then walk over to one of the comic book shelves.

Scanning through the titles, I finally spot the one Michael has been encouraging me to read, “The Legend of Ara.” On the cover, is a drawing of a girl, about the age of 18 or twenty, wearing a leather get up and posed with two medium sized swords. I tuck the book under my arm and then walk over to where Michael is sitting.

“You found it,” Michael says, as I open the book to the first page.

“Well, I figured I’d give it a shot. Otherwise, you probably won’t stop bugging me about it.”

Michael laughs. “Trust me Lizzie, I know you are going to like it. Just read a few pages and you will be hooked.”

I give him a skeptical look, and then begin to read.

He ends up being totally right. Within the first few pages, I am completely hooked and can’t put the book down. The main character, Ara, is amazing. Although she is the cliché girl that was sent from another world to Earth for safety and raised by a family that found her in a flower field (superman anyone?), I still admire the amazing artwork and the intriguing plot. I can see Michael smirking at me from the corner of his eye, and I know he can see how much I love it.

We read in silence for the next couple hours, only stopping to share passages with each other or use the restroom. Any other person would have found our hang out session incredibly boring, but I love it. I really do love being around Michael, even when we aren’t talking to each other. His presence alone makes me feel safe and calm.

Thinking about this makes me start to feel guilty about not asking him to come home with me for winter break. I really do care about him and might just be…well…falling in love with him. So what was stopping me? Why couldn’t I seem to ask him?

Ten minutes later Michael closes his book and stretches.

I look up. “You finished reading that whole thing?”

“Yup. I started it before you arrived. It’s pretty good. You should read it next when you get a chance.”

I smile. “I don’t know. Something tells me that I’m going to be spending my time catching up with this series.”

Michael grins. “I knew I would get you into it. Do I know you or what?” He then rises from the couch and walks back over to the comic book shelf.

He was right. He did know me pretty well. He was one of the most thoughtful people I had ever met other than my family and Abby. So why couldn’t I just ask him about winter break? The thought was kill me.

I finish reading my book fifteen minutes later and then leave the couch to put the book back on the shelf. “I should just ask him,” I tell myself. “Just do it.” I knew how I felt about Michael. It wasn’t a big deal. Abby was asking Charls to come home with her, and had even done so over the summer. I barely talked to Michael all summer. Yes, I was still sorting out my feelings for Kendal, but if I’m being completely honest, I think I knew the answer was Michael all along. So why was I holding back?

“Don’t think about that,” I tell myself. “Just ask him.”

I take a deep breath and square my shoulders back. My heart feels like it is beating miles a minute.

“Michael,” I start calling to him, but at the same time, his phone begins to ring.

He then raises it to his ear. “Hello? Oh hey.” His tone sounds a bit disappointed and I wonder who could be at the other end.

Although I don’t want to eavesdrop, I can’t help but do just that as I stand by the bookshelf. Michael seems irritated and anxious to get off the phone.

“No, of course.” He sighs deeply. “I will, don’t worry. I’ll take care of everything. I’ll see you in a couple of days.” He then hangs up.

I look over at him puzzled. What did he mean by saying he would “take care of everything?” Was something going on?

“Everything okay?” I ask, walking over to him.

Michael turns and then nods. “Yah, I guess.” He then sighs again. “It’s just my mom. She was asking if I’m coming home for winter break this year.”

“Oh.” I feel a bit disappointed. “Are you?”

Michael shrugs. “I told her I would, but I’m not sure. Things aren’t always that great there, so it isn’t really something I look forward to. I welcome any kind of plans or distractions so I don’t have to go.”

I frown. “Michael! That’s terrible!”

He shakes his head. “Trust me, if you were there you would understand. She is barely conscious for most of time and she is always inviting the strangest people over.” He shakes his head. “I made an excuse to miss last year, but I don’t know if I will be able to do it again. I might have to just go over and endure it.”

I take a deep breath. “Here it goes,” I think and then open my mouth.

“Michael, I need to-” I barely finish my sentence when my phone rings. I roll my eyes feeling annoyed, but then I realize it is Janice.

“Hey! I just finished finals! Whooohooo!” She calls. I hold the phone away from me, not wanting Janice’s scream to ruin my eardrums. “Let’s go out and celebrate! Meet me at the bowling alley. I’m heading over there right now. See you soon!”

She then hangs up before I can get any word in.

“Janice says she wants to meet up at the bowling alley.”

Michael nods. “Sounds good. It has been a while for me.”

I start to head in the direction of the door, but Michael pulls me back.

“Hey, wait up,” he says, “It sounded like you were going to tell me something before you got the call. What was it?”

I blink for a minute and then remember what I was talking about. “Oh, that.” Suddenly I realize I have lost my nerve. I feel too awkward to ask now that he had put me on the spot.

“Actually, I just wanted to do this.” I then lean forward and kiss him gently on his lips. I kiss him as passionately as I can, trying to distract him from what I was trying to say earlier. Lucky for me it works. Michael kisses me back and soon we are full on kissing in front of all the people in the comic store.

When we finally pull apart, I feel a bit embarrassed by some of the people watching. I giggle and pull Michael closer to me, trying to hide my face on the other side of his shoulder. I am definitely not a pda person, but desperate times call for desperate measures, I guess.

Michael laughs. “You never cease to surprise me Lizzie,” he says and then he pulls away. “We should head over to the alley.”

I blush slightly. “I’m right behind you,” I say and then follow him out. All the while, I can’t help but feel a bit guilty. Would it have been so bad for me to ask him? Why was I so afraid?

“Took you long enough!” Janice says, when Michael and I come through the door. “How far away were you?”

“At the comic book shop.”

Janice nods. “Figures. He was probably doing all he could to get you into that Legend of Ara comic, wasn’t he?”

Michael shrugs. “Guilty. And guess what? I succeeded.” He flashes Janice a wide grin and she scoffs.

“Don’t tell me.”

I lift my shoulders up. “I couldn’t resist! The comic was actually pretty good.”

Janice sighs. “I know, I’ve read it too.” I open my mouth to protest about that, but she waves her hand. “Enough of that. Let’s get bowling!”

With darkness beginning to fall outside, the bowling lane turns on their cosmic bowling lights. Janice stands in perfect form and then tosses the bowling ball down the lane, knocking down all the pins.

“Strike!” she says, pumping her fist into the air.

Michael is next up. He tosses the ball down the lane and also gets a strike, to Janice’s dismay.

“Goal!” he says, doing the most hilarious kick in the air. “You are going down Janice.”

Janice frowns and shakes her head. “We’ll see about that, Mike.” I laugh looking back and forth between the two of them. Their little squabbles are pretty entertaining. It made me enjoy hanging out with the two of them even more.

“So, did you ask Michael to come back home with you?” Janice asks when Michael is out of earshot. I blink at her in surprise.

“Abby told me,” she says with a smile, “and by your reaction, I can tell that’s a no.”

I sigh. “I don’t know. I have just been so nervous about it. Maybe I am just not ready to invite him back yet.”

Janice shrugs. “Well, if you are really that uncomfortable with it, then you probably shouldn’t. But if he is really an important part of your life, you got to do it sometime.” She then walks back over to the bowling lane to retrieve her ball.

I stare after her in silence. I know she is right, but I just can’t bring myself to ask him. I need more time to get use to the idea. I only hope that it won’t push him away even more.

Abby’s POV

I still can’t believe that Lizzie and Janice threw that Christmas bazaar for the Beta Gamma Kappas. I was so touched by it. The next day I went straight to the administrator to find out what to do next. With most things done, it seems like we missed one of the crucial things, getting a faculty adviser to sponsor us. Maybe even become a house mother. Lizzie offers to look, but I put it on me. She, Janice and Kimberly have already done so much for me.

I end up being able to talk to one of my old art professors, Mrs. Krutz from last year. Although I hadn’t seen her in a while, she was actually intrigued by the idea of me starting a new sorority. She did say she would have to think it over, but I have a pretty big feeling the answer will be yes. Even with all the negative things that Clare and Taylor were trying to spread about me, I am happy that the bazaar really turned things around. It looks like the Beta Gamma Kappas are getting some more positive attention. We are definitely on our way. Next up, planning some events to help the campus, so we can get more recognition. That said, I have come up with another way for us to secure the building for our sorority. We were going to have to rent it. I haven’t told Lizzie, Janice or Kimberly yet, but I couldn’t wait!

I am so busy trying to figure things out with the Beta Gamma Kappas, that I almost forget about finals. I get some last minute studying done on Sunday and Monday, so by Tuesday I am ready to start my finals. Taking a deep breath, I push open the doors to my first class and begin.

I am completely exhausted by the time my last class rolls around. Still I manage to focus and finish my exam right before class ends. I then turn in my final project for art (which my professor seems completely taken with, if I do say so myself) and then I am off to the grotto to meet up with Charls.

The ground is beautifully, covered in white snow and I admire it as I drive along. Just before I reach the Grotto, I remember that it is closed this week for renovations. I quickly send a text to Charls to warn him and then head to the bowling alley instead.

I take the staircase up to the second floor and then find an empty pool table. I figure I might as well enjoy a game since I won’t be here for the next few weeks.

Lining up my pool stick, I hit the ball and the correct one goes straight into the whole. I am definitely getting better at this.

“Hey babe.”

I look over and see Charls walking over.

“Hey,” I say back and then sink another ball into a hole.

“Will there ever be a day that I don’t see you at a pool table?”

I laugh. “You’ll have to wait and see.”

“So,” I give him a look. “How were your finals?”

Charls grins. “If that is your way of asking if I failed, then no. I am pretty sure I passed each one.”

“Well that’s good to hear, considering you hardly studied.”

Charls raises his hands. “Hey, just because you didn’t see me, doesn’t mean I didn’t.”

“Whatever you say, Charls,” I say laughing, and then set my pool stick back in its slot.

I give him a quick kiss, wrapping my arms around him.

“So I had something to ask you.”

Charls kisses my forehead. “Ask away.”

“Well, I hope you don’t think its way to soon or sudden, but I was wondering if you wanted to come home with me for Christmas.”

Charls raises his eyebrows. “Whoa, really?”

I suddenly feel like my stomach is doing somersaults. “W-well, if you feel it’s too soon, we don’t have to. It was just an idea. I thought maybe since you came for such a short time over summer break, it might be fun for you to stay a bit long-”

Before I finish, Charls cuts me off with a mind-blowing kiss that I feel from my lips to my toes.

He then pulls away and smiles. “You talk too much. And yes. It sounds fun, and definitely tops me visiting my folks.”

I grin and kiss him back. “Well, I’m glad to hear that. Winter break is going to be amazing.”

We then hold hands and walk down the stairs together. I am surprised when we walk to the door and spot Lizzie, Janice and Michael bowling at one of the lanes.

“Hey, fancy meeting you guys here,” I say.

Lizzie smiles. “Likewise. What are you two doing here?”

“I was just playing some pool upstairs. I’m so happy finals are over.”

“Me too! Now for a break.”

I then remember the thing I wanted to tell her earlier.

“Hey, are you guys ready to head out? I wanted to show you guys something.”

Janice and Lizzie look at each other and then back to me.

“What about?”

I grin. “You’ll see. Just follow me.”

We load into our cars and Lizzie, Janice and Michael follow behind me. I lead them through the streets until we pull up in front of the house that I just know, will soon be our sorority house.

“I should have known this is where you were taking us,” Lizzie says with a laugh.

I grin. “Well I wanted everyone else to see it.”

“Not bad,” says Michael. “Hey Charls, let’s check out the back.” The two of them then both walk around the side of the house and disappear from view.

Janice looks around and smiles. “Wow, the building is pretty nice. Is this the one you are hoping to use for the Beta Gamma Kappas?”

I nod. “I’m betting on it, and I have the best idea for us to get it. The other sorority that was optioning for it dropped out. So, I think we should rent this building next quarter.”

Lizzie looks surprised. “What? What do you mean rent it?”

“I mean, rent it! It has about six bedrooms. We could start off renting the building on our own and then option it to the board as our sorority house when the time comes. At least we would have a base for our sorority. What do you think?”

Lizzie looks around and then to Janice.

“What do you think?”

Janice shrugs. “I don’t see why not. I think it’s a good idea. Besides, I’ve been thinking about finding my own place. At least this gives me the chance.”

Lizzie looks at the house quietly and nods. “I guess you’re right. Besides, this place does look nice. Well, it will when we fix it up.”

I clasp my hands together. “Yes! This is definitely falling into place.” I nod politely to a girl that passes by carrying her back pack.

After a while of admiring the building, I turn to Janice. “Hey, I know this is out of the blue, but how are you and Greg doing?”

Janice sighs and looks toward the ground. “It is what it is I guess. He still hasn’t talked me, but I could have sworn he called me yesterday. I answered, but no one responded. I just heard breathing and then the line clicked off.”

“Well, at least you know that he does want to talk to you. He just is going through a lot. Clearly.”

“I guess.” Janice sighs again. “I just wish he would talk to me.”

Lizzie gives Janice a hug. “Don’t worry, he will. If he is already calling you, it means that he’s coming around.”

Janice nods. “I sure hope so.”

Lizzie then gets distracted by Michael who comes around and pulls her into a hug.

“You’ve got an amazing place here,” he says. “You guys picked well.”

“Well, you should give all the credit to Abby. She is the one who showed me this place.”

I grin. “Why, thank you.” I am about to do a cheesy curtsy, when Charls spins me into his arms and dips me.

“Well when the Beta Gamma Kappas become as known as the Alpha Beta Phis, I can say I knew the founder before.”

I laugh. “It’s nice to know you have faith in us.”

“Oh I have no doubt. You were meant to do this Abby. And I know you will.”

I smile and pull his face closer to mine. “I love you,” I whisper.

Charls kisses me and then whispers back, “I love you too.”

I have to say, at this moment, I feel like nothing can bring me down.
