Year 2: Chapter 52: Welcome to Beta Gamma Kappa! : Part 2: (Abby’s POV)

Screenshot-4535 (2)

I barely notice how fast the last two weeks of school go by. I am just so happy. I had been so worried about my relationship with Charls that I hadn’t really thought about anything else. What a relief it was to have him back, and boy have we been making up for lost time.

I find myself blushing in my final glass blowing class, as my mind wonders over to thinking about our passionate night together. And yes, it was passionate.

Somehow it reflects in my final project and my professor praises my vase saying the shape is very sensual and full of tender feelings. Thank God Janice wasn’t here. She would have spent the rest of class joking about it.

I then turn in my glass vase along with my stain glass bowl and then head out. I have really enjoyed taking the class. Kimberly was right on. I only hope the classes I chose for Fall quarter (Art and Architecture) will be as interesting.

As I leave the building, I look up and then heave a long sigh. Brad is standing just some ways in front of me.

“What do you want, Brad?” I say walking past him. I really don’t have time for him right now. I had to meet Janice at the student union for a study session.

Brad clears his throat. “I wanted to talk to you. I don’t like the way we…left things.”

“I think we’ve talked enough.”

“Abby please-”

I grit my teeth. “Please what? Brad, you helped sabotage the final event of the Greek Olympics just so my sorority would lose! What else is there to say?

“I want to say, I’m sorry.”

Screenshot-5210 (2)

“It was a pretty low thing to do,” he continues. “I guess I just got so caught up in myself, that I wasn’t thinking. This thing with you and Charls…it’s hard for me.”

“Well, you really need to let it go.”

“He was my friend, Abby. My best friend. I just never thought that you and him would…” he drifts off staring toward the ground.

My face softens. I am actually surprised that he hasn’t brought this up before.

Screenshot-5209 (2)

I sigh deeply. “Brad, I can’t say that I regret getting together Charls because he is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, but I am sorry about the pain that it caused you. Charls and I didn’t get together to hurt you.…we just fell in love. And not to be rude, but you lost the privilege to have an opinion about who I date when you cheated on me with Clare.”

Brad scoffs. “Why do you always have to bring that up?”

“Because it’s what happened!” I frown. “You cheated on me with her for months and when I found out, it broke my heart. I thought I would never be able to go on.” I smile. “But Charls was there for me. He and Lizzie.”

“He preyed on you,” Brad snaps. “He took advantage of the fact that you were…hurting.”

I roll my eyes. “No, he didn’t. He was a friend to me, and as for us getting together, that happened on its own. I’m sorry, but you’re going to have to accept that.”

We both stare at each other in silence.

“I have to go,” I say finally. “I’m meeting up with a friend at the student union.” I then start to walk away.

“You know, I really did love you,” Brad calls after me. “I-I think I still do.”

I pause for a second and take a deep breath. “I loved you too, Brad,” I say, and then continue down the sidewalk.

Screenshot-5409 (2)

When I reach the top floor of the student union building, Janice is already seated at one of the tables studying from her sports medicine textbook. I quickly join her at the table and pull out my textbooks to study as well.

We study for the next few hours, chatting all the while. I know it is a bit distracting to Janice, but I can’t help it. I am still so excited about everything that has happened with our sorority.

Screenshot-5411 (2)

“So, I’m thinking by next year we should try to recruit five more pledges!”

Janice looks up. “Five?”

“Yes! I want us to build up the members in our chapter. Right now, it is only the six of us.”

“Seven if we count Carrie. Is she still joining?”

I shrug. “I don’t know, I haven’t seen her since the Olympics.” I then perk up. “You know, I was thinking about throwing a party for the end of finals. Our first party as a sorority.”

Screenshot-5412 (2)

Janice nods and then flips a page. “That sounds fun. Just don’t exclude anyone this time.”

“I never excluded-”

“I know, I’m just joking!”

Janice smirks and I roll my eyes. I still don’t know where Kelsy got the idea that she and the Kappa Alpha Omegas were not allowed to attend our Greek formal.

“So how are things with you and Charls?”

I beam. “Wonderful.”

“Oh, I know, it was a rhetorical question. I think the whole house knows how good things are between you two.”

“Janice!” My face turns bright red.

Janice just laughs and highlights a passage with her neon orange highlighter.

Screenshot-5406 (2)

I close my book and then rise from my chair. “I-I’m going to go get something from the vending machines,” I say and then walk over to the nearest machine.

After slipping in two dollars, I punch in the code for a Coca Cola and then retrieve it from the hole underneath. Goodness, I had thought that Charls and I had finally learned to be discreet, but clearly not if the whole house could hear us!

Screenshot-5404 (2)

“You know, I was just teasing,” Janice then says appearing by my side.

I smile. “I know, it’s just a bit awkward.”

Janice laughs. “Hey, truthfully, I can’t really talk. There is a reason why I always go to Greg’s apartment.” She then winks and walks back to the table.

I stare after her wide eyed. Now that was way more than I wanted to know about her!

Screenshot-5413 (2)

We spend thirty minutes eating our snacks and then resume back to our studying. I don’t think I have ever studied so hard. I really want to get a good score on my Geology exam. Things have gotten a bit more challenging, but I still want to reach my goal of a 3.5 gpa.

Screenshot-5399 (2)

After the fourth hour, Janice and I call it quits. We then walk over to one of the nearby tennis tables. Janice then totally owns me at a game of tennis. I swear, she can hit that ball back and forth at lightning speed! No wonder she beat everyone at the Greek Olympics. All in all, it was a nice release. All that studying had made me pretty cranky.

Screenshot-4950 (2)

That said, it does pay off. When I start my finals that Monday, I am surprised to find the answer to each question coming to me. Even with my Geology class, the answers are just flying into my head unlike all the other times when I was pondering around and eventually had to guess.

I then finish my exam and after checking over my answers, I turn it in and leave class twenty-five minutes early. I only hope that I did as well as I thought I did.

Screenshot-3826 (2)

“Stop worrying,” Charls says to me as we cuddle together that Thursday night. Classes have finally ended for the summer and I will know my final grades by tomorrow.

“I can’t,” I say, resting my head upon his shoulder. “I am determined to lift my gpa this quarter.”

“And you will. You’ve been studying like crazy. I’m sure you’re going to pass that class.”

“True.” I smile. “I’ll bet you’re happy you don’t have to deal with all this anymore.”

Charls laughs. “I can’t lie, I won’t. Although I will miss seeing you.”

Screenshot-3839 (2)

“You still taking that job at Hillman corp?” Charls had told me that he had received two job offers from two big businesses. The one at Hillman corp seemed to be the one he was leaning more towards.

Charls smiles. “I am definitely thinking about it. Like I said, I can work from anywhere. They actually have an office downtown.”

I look up. “Really?”
“Yah. So if I take it, I’ll be working from right here.”

I bite my lip. “Not trying to sway, but it would be nice to still see you every day.”

“Well, you just might be in luck.”

I grin. “I am so happy for your graduation. Whose all coming?”

Screenshot-3838 (2)

Charls seems to become a bit distant when I ask. He then shrugs. “Well, I know my brother, Ben is coming with his wife, Liza, but I don’t know about my parents or my sister, Celine.”

I frown and sit up. “Really? Your parents aren’t coming? How can they miss your big day?”

“It’s not that big,” Charls protests, but when he sees the look on my face, he sighs. “The thing is, I didn’t really invite them.”

“Really? How come?”

Charls looks away. “It’s complicated.”

I touch his cheek with my hand. “Tell me.”

Charls rubs the back of his neck. “I really don’t like to talk about it, but basically some stuff went down between me and dad that kind of wrecked things between us. I haven’t really spoken to him or my mom since.”

Screenshot-3829 (2)

I move back into Charls’s arms. “It sounds like it was really serious.”

“It-it was.” Charl then shakes his head. “But let’s not worry about that. Right now, I just want to focus on you, my love.”

I giggle and pull him closer. “And I you,” I say back, faking a British accent and we begin to kiss again.

Screenshot-3840 (2)

I don’t know how long we lay kissing like that, but the next thing I know, we are lying beside each other with my eyelids heavy. I just lay staring into Charls beautiful eyes until I finally drift off to sleep.

Screenshot-5179 (2)

When I wake up several hours later, I feel comforted to see Charls lying beside me. He opens his eyes when I stretch.

“Morning,” he says and I laugh.

“Morning.” I then hear the clanging of pots downstairs. I look over at the clock and realize it is almost twelve. Everyone is probably already up. This would be a good time for him to leave before Kimberly notices.

Screenshot-5186 (2)

Charls on the other hand, has other ideas. “You have to go,” I say as he reaches over to start kissing me again.

“Come on Abby,” he says, and my heart lurches with excitement.

“Charls, they’re all downstairs-”

“They won’t hear us.”

“They did last-”

Screenshot-5187 (2)

Charls cuts off my last word with a kiss and soon I let myself surrender to him. We then kiss tenderly as we roll upon my mattress. My strong desire to be close to him takes over, and soon we are repeating the events of last night, over and over again.

Screenshot-5177 (2)

An hour later, Charls dresses back in his clothes from the night before and then kisses me goodbye.

“Don’t forget the party tonight,” I say as he nears the door. “I want to see you there.”

Charls grins. “I wouldn’t miss it.”

Screenshot-4226 (2)

After Charls leaves, I head into the kitchen to get some coffee.

Lizzie and Selena are both in their pajamas cooking together when I enter. After pouring myself a cup of coffee, I decide to help out and clean the counters for them. Lizzie then asks me if I slept well, and it isn’t until she and Selena both start laughing that I realize what she means. Feeling my face flush, I grab my cup of coffee and rush back upstairs. It looks like once again, Charls and I had alerted the whole house!

Screenshot-4805 (2)

Feeling still embarrassed, I take a shower and then get dressed in my walk-in closet. I then head back downstairs to see how things are going.

Screenshot-5081 (2)

Selena is hanging out by the pool getting some fresh air.

“Penny for your thoughts,” I say walking over to her.

Selena looks up at me and then smiles. “Sorry I was spacing.”

Screenshot-5087 (2)

“No need to apologize. I was just checking in.”

Selena smiles. “You know this land really is beautiful. It’s a perfect place for a sorority.”

I nod. “It sure is. I knew when I first saw it, that it was the one.”

“I can’t believe we are a sorority now! Amazing how one little deal had such a big impact on us.”

I smirk. “Yah. I’m sure Taylor and Clare are still reeling from anger.”

Screenshot-5089 (2)

We both laugh.

“So what plans do you have for the summer?” Selena asks.

I shrug. “Mostly hanging out with friends and family. You?”

“My parents want us to visit London this summer. We leave in two weeks.”

My eyes widen. “That sounds amazing! You should take lots of pictures. We could use some of them for our sorority blog.”

Selena nods. “Will do.”

Screenshot-5091 (2)

We then chat for another thirty minutes before going back inside. The party will be starting in a few hours.

Screenshot-4798 (2)

With me leaving tomorrow evening, I decide to get my last load of laundry done. It takes me a couple hours, but soon my clothes are all clean and smell like fresh linen. I then fold them neatly and slip them into my suitcase.

When I finish, it is almost time for the party to start. After touching up my face in the mirror, I then head downstairs.

Screenshot-5034 (2)

When I come downstairs, the party has already started. I spot the boys of Eta Phi Nu walking inside and even spot one of Brad’s frat brother’s hanging in the corner, Dean.

Screenshot-5045 (2)

I am really starting to wonder what the hell he is doing here, when I spot him talking to Charls. They both seem deep in conversation and then start to laugh. Strange… Did this mean that they had cleared the air? Did it mean the Alpha Annyas were going to be friendlier? I won’t hold my breath.

Screenshot-5046 (2)

The doorbell then rings and I go out to check who it is. Apparently, someone had ordered pizza. As I pay the deliverer, I see Carrie coming up the drive way.

“Hey,” I say, as I tip the delivery boy. “I was hoping you would stop by.”

Carrie grins. “I’m sure you were. Sorry, I’ve been busy with finals.”

Screenshot-5047 (2)

“No problem.” I then smirk. “So fyi, we won the Greek Olympics.”

Carrie looks at me and laughs. “Ah, I see you haven’t forgotten about our deal.”

“Well, in that case, I suppose you now have a new pledge.”

I squeal and give Carrie a hug. “Welcome to Betta Gamma Kappa!”

Screenshot-5048 (2)

Carrie beams. “Thank you. I hope to be a great addition to your sorority.”

“And I’m sure you will.” I then notice Ryder staring at us from the dining room window.

“I think your boyfriend is getting lonely.”

Carrie looks up and giggles. “Oh, I better get going.”

She then disappears inside.

Screenshot-5062 (2)

As I head back inside, I see Kendal and Lizzie chatting by the door. I am about to step in and say something, when I see that Lizzie looks okay. Kendal was the one that looked down. Very. Lizzie must have finally ended things with him for good. Man, I could tell by the look on his face that he really had it bad for her. I even feel a bit sorry for him, but not enough to say anything.

Screenshot-5069 (2)

When I enter back into the dining room, I spot Carrie and Ryder kissing in the corner. It’s so weird because Carrie didn’t strike me as someone who would kiss in public. Then again, neither did Lizzie. Love makes you do crazy things.

Screenshot-5078 (2)

As the night pours on, I walk about watching everyone and snapping photos. I don’t even care that the music is blasting pretty loud. I just want to remember this evening forever.

Screenshot-5559 (2)

Mrs. Krutz herself even stops by, wanting to see her sorority house up close. I am so happy when she approves of our house and formally agrees to be our housemother.

“You have really done an excellent job, Abby,” she says. “Starting a new sorority is no easy thing. I still can’t believe all the work that you did to form it. That takes great determination.”

I blush. “Thank you.”

“Well, keep it up. I want to hear from you during the summer and definitely come see me in the Fall. We will need to work on expanding.”

I smile and agree.

“Have a great summer, Abby.”

“You too, Mrs. Krutz.”

Screenshot-5644 (2)

As she walks away, I just stand there watching the party in awe about everything that has happened over the past two years. When I first came to Aberdale last year, never in a million years would I have thought that I would start my own sorority. I thought that at the most, I would become a part of someone else’s and have to listen to someone else tell me what to do. To prank others like I did to Lizzie, or worse, be only allowed to have certain friends or date certain people.

Now, I don’t. I am now a leader, leading a group of girls who are nothing like the Tri-Fruhms or the Alpha Beta Phis. And unlike them, I am not controlling everything. I prefer for our sorority to work together as a team to make our sorority one of the best on campus, and honestly, I had this gut feeling it was going to happen.

I see Lizzie making her way to the door with Michael and call her over to me.

“Picture for the collage?” I ask, and Lizzie smiles.

“Sure. It is our first sorority house party after all.”

We bother then grin and I flash the photo.

Screenshot-5647 (2) 2

Looking at that photo of the two us, I just know someday down the road I am going to look at it with fondness and remember the magnitude of that moment. I’ll remember that with everything that the two of us have been through for the past two years of college; fights, heartbreak, betrayal, distrust, and forgiveness, the only way to go was up.

(Hey my readers! Thank you so much for reading Year 2 of Lizzie and Abby: The College Diaries! I have enjoyed writing it greatly and I hope you have all been enjoying reading it as well. And fear not! As I stated in my last post, this will not be the end of Lizzie and Abby! I will be continuing their life stories into their adult years, so stay tuned! There is definitely more to come, starting with the summer of their college graduation!

Also, stay tuned, for I will be starting a new Sims 3 adventure/fantasy story! More soon and keep reading, liking and commenting! 🙂 )

Year 2: Chapter 51: Welcome To Beta Gamma Kappa!: Part 1 (Lizzie’s POV)

Screenshot-5281 (2)

The last two weeks of Spring quarter go by quickly after the Greek Olympics. Everyone seems to be in a good mood around the house, thrilled about our victory over the Alpha Beta Phis. I still can’t believe that Clare was so desperate enough to cheat, let alone Brad. Abby had filled me in how he had had one of his frat brothers mess with the batteries of our walkie talkies to stop us from communicating with each other. It’s pretty sad how desperate they all were, but we still prevailed.

I am also so thrilled to have cleared the air with Michael. Without it weighing on me, I am able to focus more on my studying for finals and practicing for my final presentation.

Screenshot-5020 (2)

I end up presenting on Monday of finals week. As nervous as I had been, I actually do an excellent job. Well, at least from my point of view. My voice doesn’t waver one bit and I stay completely on point. I even manage to use the white board to explain some of my findings after showing my PowerPoint. By the time I finish, Professor Farientine nods to me with a little smile. The class then applauds and I make my way to my seat.

Screenshot-4006 (2)

Thirty minutes later, he announces that we will resume presentations tomorrow and then excuses us for the day. On my way, out, he personally congratulates me on a job well done, saying that I am exactly what he expects of his apprentices. I nod politely and then leave. I still stand by what I said, he has become so friendly that it is so odd.

Screenshot-5265 (2)

I then head over to the library for a study session with Michael, Charls, and Abby. Sitting at one of the computers, I start going over Astronomy practice quizzes. Michael reads though his programming textbook, stopping to stare at me over the top of it. I feel myself blush slightly. I love when Michael looks at me like that. I glance over at Abby and Charls and see that they are doing the same, although truthfully, I think that they are thinking about “other” things. I happened to hear a lot of movement coming from her room the past couple nights. I don’t think Kimberly knows that Abby has been having Charls as her nightly visitor, but even so after everything they went through, I doubt she would object.

Screenshot-5271 (2)

After a couple hours have passed, Charls stands up from his chair.

“I should head off,” he says. “I’m meeting with someone from the career center.”

Abby grins. “I still can’t believe you’re graduating. It’s so exciting!”

“Yah, it is.” Charls smiles and tucks his book under his arm. “And with luck, I may have a job offer. I went to the job fair this past Saturday and the representatives for Hillman corp. seemed very interested. Would be perfect for me since they have offices everywhere.”

Abby frowns. “What about that other one you mentioned? Winstela Hills?”

Charls shakes his head. “No. I’m not accepting anything from there. They are too connected to, well…someone I know.” He suddenly looks a bit annoyed and I can’t help but wonder who that “someone” is that he so badly wanted to distance himself from.

I don’t get to ask though, for he then kisses Abby goodbye and leaves.

Screenshot-5275 (2)

I stay for thirty minutes more, before also calling it a night.

“I think I am all studied up for today,” I say to Abby, and I log off my computer. “I’ll see you back at the house.”

Abby nods to me and after Michael waves farewell, we then walk hand in hand out of the library.

Screenshot-5618 (2)

We both however, don’t head straight home. Instead, we go right to the comic bookstore. We haven’t been there together in so long, so we decided to get some time in before the quarter ends.

Screenshot-5621 (2)

We then play some video games on the TV console in the game room. Michael had been wanting me to do so for a while, but I had never really gotten around to it.

We end up having a complete blast together and I only wish we had done this earlier.

Screenshot-5623 (2)

Throughout the time, Michael and I are chatting about our plans over the summer. He tells me that he is going back to stay with his mother and maybe get a part-time job.

“I’ll probably get something with the diner in town. I know the owner from when I used to hang there in high school.”

“That sounds nice.” I then try a game combo Michael taught me to take down an enemy on the game. “I’m going to try and get my job back at the library. I really do love working there.”

“Well it is fitting for an aspiring writer.”

I grin and use another combo to defeat the final boss.

“You know, you are unusually good at this. Are you sure you haven’t played something like this before?”

I set the controller down. “Well, I have played a bit with Judy at home, but mostly, I think it’s just that I have an amazing teacher.”

“That you do.”

Screenshot-5642 (2)

We decide to play a table game of galactica before heading out. The table was just put in recently so we both hadn’t gotten a chance to play it.

We end up going at it for another hour, before we decide to head home.

Screenshot-5615 (2)

After giving Michael a kiss goodbye, I hurry off down the sidewalk toward home.

Screenshot-5258 (2)

I spend the rest of the week studying and taking finals. I am so relieved when I take my last final on Wednesday afternoon. It is in my Astronomy class which I am freaking out about.

Luckily, from all my studying, I am able to pass through the exam rather quickly. With luck, I might just get an A.

Screenshot-4274 (2)

And sure enough, I do! I am psyched Friday afternoon when I check the mail and see an envelope with my final grades. Scanning it, I see a 4.0 for this quarter! I can’t lie, I never grow tired of seeing it. I have an urge to go upstairs to show Abby, but I have a pretty good feeling that she is not alone up there.

To celebrate, I decide to head down and play some video games. Janice had bought a new action one over the weekend and I was curious to try my skills on it.

Screenshot-4279 (2)

“I see you’re checking out my game,” Janice says just then, taking a seat next to me on the couch.

I laugh. “I couldn’t resist. Michael has really gotten me into playing.”

“I can see that.” Janice smirks. “And you’re not half bad either.”

“Oh, just so you know, Abby is throwing a party tonight. For end of term.”

“That sounds fun.”

Screenshot-4281 (2)

Janice nods. “It will be our first party as an official sorority.”

I smile and sit back. “That feels so weird to hear you say.”

“Even weirder, we are real sorority girls now. I never thought I would see the day.”

“Neither did I.” I sigh. “We really have come a long way.”

“You can say that again.” Janice then stands up. “I’m going to run to the store. Selena wants to make some of her tarts for the party and she is out of flour.”

Screenshot-4227 (2)

After Janice leaves, I decide to check in on Selena in the kitchen.

As I enter, Selena is mixing away at the counter humming softly as she stirs.

“Need any help?” I ask.

She looks over and smiles. “Sure. You could crack the eggs sitting on that tray.”

I lift up the tray and carry it over to the counter. Then one by one I crack the eggs.

“I can’t believe we are a real sorority now,” Selena exclaims. “Can you imagine what it is going to be like next year? Everything is going to be so different!”

Screenshot-4225 (2)

I look up. “What do you mean?”

“Well, now we have more pull. We can go to the same events, get the same funding and pledge more members! Also, we can have a say on the Greek council!”

“The council? How?”

“Isn’t every council member part of a Greek Chapter? Now that we are established, one of us can become a part of the council too.”

I purse my lips slightly. “Hmm, that’s a thought, but I doubt it will be that easy. With all the Alpha Beta Phis and the Alpha Annyas did to try and stop us from becoming a sorority, I doubt they would let it be that easy.”

“True. But it doesn’t hurt to try!”

Selena and I then get to work mixing up batches of her tarts and other pastries and later, Janice brings in the flour to help us finish up.

Screenshot-4228 (2)

After we put them all in the oven, I help Selena clean up the kitchen. Abby comes down a little later to get some coffee and help us.

“Did you sleep well,” Selena remarks, and when Abby says yes, she and I burst out laughing.

Abby looks confused, but then blushes when she realizes what we are talking about. She then tries to hide her face behind her coffee mug as she makes her way back upstairs.

“Those two have been inseparable since they got back together,” says Selena. “I hope someday I find a guy like Charls. Or Michael.”

I smile. Michael was pretty amazing. I wouldn’t give him up for the world.

Screenshot-4265 (2)

Speaking of which, I hadn’t told him about the party. After washing the last of the baking dishes, I dial up his number and leave a message telling him about the party. I then go to my room to get ready.

Screenshot-5023 (2)

By the time, I get ready and head back downstairs, the party has already started. I realize that I didn’t exactly know the time it was starting, but I didn’t realize it was starting so soon. Then again, I did wake up late, so maybe it was later than I thought.

Screenshot-5032 (2)

Soon, the sorority girls of Delta Sigma show up walking with the boys of Eta Phi Nu. I even spot Kelsy from Kappa Alpha Omega and I greet her nicely, hoping it will clear the air from last time.

Screenshot-5036 (2)

Michael shows up an hour later, followed by someone I was not expect to see at all.

Screenshot-5049 (2)

“Kendal,” I say looking a bit taken aback. “What are you doing here?”

Kendal swallows. “I was hoping we could talk.”

I sigh and looking toward the ground. “I really don’t think that there is anything left to talk about.”

“But there is.”

Screenshot-5056 (2)

“Elizabeth, you were right about what you said. I-I wasn’t the best boyfriend to you or a good friend. I didn’t realize the pressure you felt when we were together and though I didn’t see it at first, I understand now how you must have felt. I’m so sorry.”

I shrug. “It’s okay. It is what it is. You don’t have to be sorry for feeling the way you feel.”

“But I do. I made you feel like you had to be a certain way to be with me, and that is far from the truth. Elizabeth, I like you just as you are.”

Screenshot-5053 (2)

“T-thank you.” It does feel nice to hear him finally say that. “Well, I should get back to the party. Please feel free to stick around if you like.” I start to leave, but Kendal steps in my way.

Screenshot-5054 (2)

“Elizabeth wait,” he says. “I can’t let you just go again.”

I frown. “What?”

“It was a mistake for me to end things the way I did last year with you. I let you walk away and then we lost each other.” Kendal sighs. “I don’t want to make that same mistake again. Elizabeth, I-I love you.”

Screenshot-5052 (2)

I swallow sharply. “Oh no,” I say to myself. This was not the conversation I wanted to be having with Michael only a few feet from me. I could see him watching Kendal and I from down the hall.

“Kendal, that’s really sweet, but you know I can’t. I’m with Michael.”

“Y-yes, I-I know you are, but that doesn’t change the way we feel. You and I have something Elizabeth. Something I am not willing to give up.”

“But you have to Kendal.” I exhale deeply. “You and I “had” something. Past tense. But now we don’t. I’m with Michael now and I love him with all my heart. This isn’t just a fling Kendal, it’s the real deal with us.”

Screenshot-5067 (2)

Kendal’s face falls slightly and I can’t help but feel a bit guilty. I can tell that he really cares about me, but at the same time I can’t lie to him. There was no chance for us, and I don’t want to give him false hope.

“I’m really sorry,” I say, giving his hand a squeeze. “I really do hope you find someone else that makes you happy.”

“Kendal nods slowly. “I hope so too, but no one can hold a candle to you, Elizabeth.” He then lifts my hand and kisses it gently, before turning and walking back down the stairs of the porch.

Screenshot-5079 (2)

The night gets calmer afterwards. Toward the end, I catch up with Carrie.

“I saw you with Kendal earlier,” she says. “I hope you let him down gently.”

I smile. “I did. It wasn’t easy though. First loves are hard to get over.”

“No surprise there. Though I do hope mine lasts.”

“You and Ryder?”

Carrie nods.

“I think you will. There is something special about the two of you.”

Carrie blushes. “Thanks.”

“I hope we’ll be seeing you around the house next year,” I say, giving her a sly smile and she laughs.

“Hey, a deal is a deal.”

Screenshot-5354 (2)

After snapping some pictures with Abby and others at the party, I head out into the night with Michael. Being my last day on campus, I figure it would be nice to spend some alone time with him. It was a bit noisy in the house and I didn’t know how long the party was going to last.

Michael and I climb into my Audi and together we drive over to his apartment.

Screenshot-5710 (2)

And boy was it the best idea. I am thrilled to be resting in Michael’s arms as we watch TV on his couch.

“So, you’re going to be a senior next fall,” I say with a grin.

Michael laughs. “I know, it’s crazy.”

“You figured out what branch of computer science you want to major in?”

“As a matter of fact, yes. I’m majoring in interactive media design.”

“That sounds good. I definitely think you have a nag for gaming.”

Michael beams. “Why, thank you, miss,” he says, and I chuckle.

Screenshot-5719 (2)

“And how about you? Have you sent out your query yet?”

I nod. “I sent it to five agents yesterday. I probably won’t hear from them until the end of the summer.”

“Sounds like long wait.”

“Tell me about it.”

Screenshot-5718 (2)

I turn over to Michael and lean in closer. “I could use a big distraction.”

Michael grins. “Oh yah? How so?”

“If you come and visit me over break.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

Screenshot-5714 (2)

And then Michael presses his lips upon mine and we are once again lost in each other’s arms. As we kiss, I marvel at what a year this has been. I can’t believe it is already coming to an end and that next fall I will already be a junior. Strange enough, I am actually not afraid. I have been through so much over the past two years that I feel confident to take on anything.

Yes, right now as I sit here kissing the man I love and finishing another school year, the future was looking bright.

(Hey my readers! Thank you so much for reading my story! One more chapter of Lizzie and Abby and that will be the end their college years! I will then be doing a time skip into the summer of their college graduation. Stay tuned! 🙂 )

Year 2: Chapter 42: Beta Gamma Kappa Formal!: Part 2 (Lizzie’s POV)

(Hey everyone! Sorry that I missed a chapter in Tuesday. Things have been kind of crazy for me this week so I didn’t have enough time to put any chapters up. Please enjoy part 2 of the Beta Gamma Kappa formal! Like, Share, and comment! 🙂 )

Lizzie’s POV

Screenshot-3857 (2)

I try my best to avoid Kendal after that night by the lake. I still can’t believe the way my body reacted. “I am with Michael now,” I tell myself. “You love Michael.”

The truth is, I really do love him. So what was with that weird feeling I got when Kendal hugged me? What was wrong with me?

When Saturday arrives, I try to wipe the thoughts from my mind. I don’t want to go to the Beta Gamma Kappa formal still thinking about it.

I spend the morning typing up a paper for my public relations class, not wanting to work on my story. With everything going on, romance is the last thing I want on my mind.

Screenshot-4338 (2)

I then decide to take a bit of a break and grab something to eat. Janice is in the dining room eating a bowl of oatmeal.

“You look stressed,” she says, as I take a seat with one of Selena’s cinnamon buns.

“I was just typing up a paper for public relations.”

“You can say that again.”

We then eat for a bit in silence before Abby appears. She tells us she is off to class and then leaves.

“She better not miss her own Formal,” Janice jokes. “Kimberly will have a cow.”

I laugh. “This is Abby we are talking about. She will definitely make sure she is there.”

Screenshot-4874 (2).jpg

After eating, I then go back up to my room to continue typing. I end up finishing the paper around four, a couple hours before the Gala beings. Good timing. I figure I should get dressed for the dance before going down to help set up, so I head into my closet to find an outfit.

Screenshot-4875 (2)

I have to say, it is pretty awesome having a walk-in closet. The rooms designed in this house are very nice and spacious. I am very surprised about how reasonable the price is for renting here. Then again, this place didn’t look very promising at first. Now it felt like a palace to us.

Screenshot-4879 (2)

When I get downstairs, the place is already almost in order. Selena is finishing up her appetizers, which smell amazing, and Kimberly is configuring the music selection. I help Tatyana put up a disco ball that apparently Selena and Kimberly purchased earlier during the week.

By time we are all finished, it is almost seven ‘o clock. Selena comes into the family room and looks at everything.

“Wow, this all looks great! Tonight, is going to be amazing!”

“I agree,” I say with a smile.

Screenshot-5382 (2)

Twenty minutes later, the party is in full swing. Everyone is moving about having a good time. I spot Abby floating about and taking pictures with everyone. She even catches me as I am making my way over to the door. I’m sure it’s to put on the tack board in the dining room. Abby has put up a sorority collage pin board for us to document our growing sorority. It’s a good idea, one I can see she is taking very seriously.

Screenshot-4767 (2)

Michael arrives a couple minutes later and we head straight to the dance floor to dance. I have to say, I am having the time of my life. Those weird thoughts of Kendal have officially left my brain. I am now prepared to dance the night away with my boyfriend and the girls of Beta Gamma Kappa.

Screenshot-4826 (2)

Janice seems to be having a good time as well, dancing with one of her friends from her kickboxing class. She keeps glancing toward the door entrance and I know she is desperately waiting for Greg to arrive.

Screenshot-4766 (2)

I am proven right when forty minutes later, Greg arrives with the other Eta Phi Nu members. Janice goes over to him and is glued to him for the rest of the night.

Screenshot-4821 (2)

When I go to get a drink from the dining room, I see Carrie staring out the window. Instantly I feel bad. I have been so busy with Michael that I didn’t even see her come in.

“Hey Carrie,” I say walking over to her. “Enjoying the party?”

Screenshot-4828 (2)

Carrie jumps slightly. “Yes, I am.”

“I’m sorry I haven’t really been around. I’ve kind of been with Michael.”

Carrie shakes her head. “No problem. I was talking to a friend from class. She keeps trying to push me to talk to this guy.”

I frown. “What guy?”

“His name is Ryder Bell. He is from my political science class.”

“Ryder Bell? Are you talking about Selena Bell’s brother?  From Eta Phi Nu?”

Screenshot-4831 (2)

Carrie nods shyly. “My friend Kylee keeps trying to push me to talk to him. She thinks he might be into me, but I really don’t know for sure.” Carrie rubs the back of her neck. “I just don’t want to say anything unless I know for sure.”

I smile. “Well, you’ll never know for sure unless you talk to him. Believe me, I know how scary it is to take a chance when you like someone, but I think you’ll regret it more if you don’t.”

Carrie sighs. “But what if he doesn’t feel the same way?”

“Then it’s his loss. At least you know you took a chance.”

Screenshot-4830 (2)

Carrie looks at me quietly for a moment and then she smiles. “I suppose you’re right. Maybe I will talk to him. Oh, and you should talk to Kendal. He’s around here somewhere.”

That catches my attention. “What?”

“Kendal. I told him I was coming and he tagged along with me. Said he wanted to talk to you about something.”

I immediately feel my heart start to beat faster. Kendal was at the party? Why? Had he noticed that I had been avoiding him?

Screenshot-4833 (2)

Carrie must have noticed my reaction.

“I hope it was okay that I brought him,” she says nervously.

I quickly snap out of my fear. “No, it’s fine. I was just surprised that he came. He has never really been into the Greek scene.”

“Yah, I agree. I think he just came to see you.” She then turns in the direction of the hallway. “Well, here goes nothing,” she says, and then she walks out of the room.

Screenshot-4749 (2)

I am all a bunch of nerves. I hurry back into the family room trying to decide what I am going to say to Michael about this, when I run into exactly who I am trying to avoid.

“K-kendal,” I say in surprise.

Kendal looks at me and smiles. “Elizabeth, I have been looking for you.”

I swallow nervously. “Oh? You have?”

Kendal nods. “Yes. I think we need to talk.”

Screenshot-4750 (2)

“About what?” I ask, I know I am totally playing coy, but I have to. I am begging for Michael to be wrong about Kendal.

“Honestly? I feel like you have been avoiding me the past couple days. Is it because of that night by the lake?”

“No, why would you think that?”

“I don’t know. I guess because after I hugged you, you just ran off.”

“Oh.” I shuffle uneasily. “I-I guess you just caught me off guard. We haven’t hugged like that in-”

“A long time,” Kendal finishes. “I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable. I guess I just got caught up in the moment.”

Screenshot-4751 (2)

I shake my head. “It’s okay, you didn’t make me uncomfortable. It just surprised me. That’s all. It’s been awhile.”

“Yes, it really has.”

Kendal looks at me in that funny way again. “I-I’ve really missed you, Elizabeth.”

I feel my heart increasing its pace again and my cheeks once again starting to heat up.

“I-I-um…” I have no idea how to respond to that. I don’t want to hurt his feelings, but then again, I am not even sure what to think. With all my weird feelings from Thursday night, I don’t even know how I feel anymore.

“I-I don’t know what to say.” I then swallow anxiously.

Screenshot-4752 (2)

Kendal smiles at me and then steps closer. I am paralyzed to my spot, so I don’t even flinch when he again reaches his arms around me and pulls me into another hug. And as much as I want to lie to myself, the hug feels really good. For a second, I remember what it was like to be his girl. What it was like to be with him.

“You don’t have to say anything,” he whispers into my ear and I subconsciously hug him back. The scent of his cologne fills my nostrils and I breathe it in, closing close my eyes.

Screenshot-4770 (2)

When I open them again, I see the shadow of someone familiar walking out of the family room. I can’t help but feel that I know who it is.

“Kendal, I have to go,” I say quickly and I hurry out of the room.

I nearly bump into Greg and Janice, who are making out right by the archway.

“Get a room you two,” I start, but then freeze when I spot someone opening the front door.

Screenshot-4775 (2)

“Michael!” I call down the hall.

He doesn’t even turn around. He just pushes open the front door and then disappears outside.

“Michael! Wait!” I call again and I run right after him.

Screenshot-4785 (2)

I catch up with him on the sidewalk. “Michael, where are you going?” When he doesn’t answer, I grab his arm. “Michael, what is it?”

Michael then turns on me. “Lizzie, don’t even start.”

I frown. “Start what?”

“You know what.”

I swallow sharply. “Michael, I have no idea what you’re-”

“What were you doing with him?”

“With who?”

Screenshot-4787 (2)

“I wasn’t doing anything with him.”

“The hell you weren’t!” Michael looks furious. I have never seen him like that before.

“Michael, I didn’t do anything!”

“Then what was that in there? Why was he holding you like that?”

“I-it was just a hug! A friendly hug!”

“Was it?” Michael snaps. “Because from what I saw, it looked like a lot more than that.”

Screenshot-4788 (2)

My hands are starting to tingle. Michael was right. He was totally right. But I couldn’t admit it. I just couldn’t.

“Michael, it was just a hug, honest. It didn’t mean anything.”

“I don’t believe that for a second. I’ve known you long enough to tell what you’re thinking, and Lizzie, that hug was not nothing.”

I frown. “What are you trying to say?”

“I’m saying that I know you have feelings for him.”

That totally catches me off guard. “What? Of course not!”

Michael holds his hands up. “I know you do. There’s no use denying it. I saw the look on your face.”

I open my mouth to protest, but I can’t. He’s right. He’s completely right.

Screenshot-4792 (2)

“See?” Michael gives me a look of hurt. “You can’t even deny it.”

I feel my throat becoming parched and my eyes are watering slightly. “Michael, please,” I say reaching toward him, but he backs away.

“Lizzie, don’t. Just don’t.”

Screenshot-4795 (2)

He sighs running a hand through his hair. “I-I’ve got to go. I just-I can’t deal with this right now.” He then turns and heads down the sidewalk.

I want so badly to go after him, but I know I can’t. Michael needed some space from me and honestly, I needed to find out what the heck was going on with me. I had not even thought about Kendal or our relationship for months. So why was it suddenly hitting me now? Had I not really moved on from Kendal before getting with Michael?

Screenshot-5153 (2)

I head back into the house and am surprised to see Carrie and Ryder kissing in the kitchen. I guess she had taken the plunge and gotten good results. I’m glad at least someone is happy.

I look around for Kendal to apologize for running off, but he is nowhere to be found. It’s clear he left.

Just as I am thinking this, I smell smoke coming from the living room. Hurrying over, I am stunned to see that the floor is engulfed in flames!

Screenshot-4910 (2)

Not knowing what to do, I look over and see Janice outside talking with Greg. I pull back the sliding door and call out,

“Janice! Come quick! The house is on fire!”

Screenshot-4837 (2)

That gets her attention and she comes running in.

“What on Earth?” she calls, even cursing under her breath. “What happened?”

“I don’t know! I just saw it right now!”

I then spot Abby come in looking alarmed and then she runs back into the kitchen. I assume she is calling the fire department.

Charls however, springs into action spraying the fire with an extinguisher that he found somewhere upstairs. He finishes most of it by the time the fire department shows up. I am still shocked by all of this.

Screenshot-4844 (2)

Afterwards, people start to clear out of the party. Well, the people that were left after the fire was put out. Janice and I grab some mops and try to sweep up some of the soot.

“You guys are awfully lucky,” one of the firemen says to us. “If this fire wasn’t put out right then, it could have turned into a real disaster.”

I can’t help, but agree.

Screenshot-5359 (2)

After everyone clears out, we get to cleaning everything up. We finish after one in the morning, and are all totally exhausted.

“Some party this turned out to be,” Tatyana says with a sigh. “I can’t believe we almost burned our house down.”

“I can’t believe it either,” I say, “I wonder who at the party was smoking?”

“Funny, I didn’t see anyone smoking and neither did Selena. Selena was in the family room the whole time, where the cigarette that started the fire was found.”

Screenshot-5358 (2)

“I don’t know.” I then stretch. “Well its late. We should get some sleep and see about all of this tomorrow.”

Kimberly scoffs. “Tell me about it. I’ll have to call the insurance and see what they can do about fixing the damages.” She then yawns. “Night all,” she says and head upstairs. Tatyana and I follow shortly after her.

Screenshot-5388 (2)

I am all too happy to dress for bed and climb inside. I am so stressed out with the fire, not to mention the Michael and Kendal situation. Now Michael was mad at me and honestly, I couldn’t blame him. Yes, it was just a hug between Kendal and me, but it was a really more than that. We had had a…well, a moment, and Michael had totally saw it.

I sigh and then roll over. “But you love Michael,” my brain keeps telling me, which was right. So why did I have these weird feelings for Kendal?

Ugh, I really needed to figure this out. Or I could be losing Michael as a boyfriend and maybe even as a friend.

Year 2: Chapter 41: Beta Gamma Kappa Formal!: Part 1 (Abby’s POV)

The night of our sorority gala totally sneaks up on me. I had spent the week spreading the news around campus while trying to balance my classes, which for some reason were already off to a rough start. Still, I am able to get the news around and it seems like our formal might just be a hit. By the time I wake up Saturday morning, everything is in order.

I decide to spend some time painting, for I haven’t done so leisurely for quite some time.

This quarter, I am taking another art course which is a continuation of last quarter. My advisor is really encouraging me to explore my options for a major, but I am not completely sure yet. I really want to do something with art, but I know it is a hard business to break into.

I have to say though, it is nice to be able to paint without guidelines. I have been had to paint with them a lot the past few courses, so it is nice to be a little freer.

I end up painting for the next couple hours, just focusing on my painting and the stroke of my brush. By the time I look over at the clock, it is almost two O’ clock.

I then get dressed and head downstairs. Lizzie and Janice are eating in the dining room.

“You’re up late,” Janice says through a mouthful of oatmeal.

“I was upstairs painting,” I protest, but now that I think about it, it was probably eleven before the time I got up.

“I can’t believe the formal is already tonight,” I continue.

Lizzie takes a sip of her orange juice. “Me too. I invited Carrie to come. I hope that’s okay.”

Janice laughs. “You still trying to recruit her?”

“Hey, any new member to Beta Gamma Kappa, the better for us,” I point out.

Janice nods. “True.”

“Well I’m heading out to my weekend class,” I say grabbing my car keys. “Be back in a couple hours.”

“Not too late,” Lizzie calls after me. “You don’t want to be late to your own formal.”

Isn’t that the truth.

Fifteen minutes later, I walk into my glassblowing class. Kimberly had spoken so fondly of it last quarter that I really wanted to give it a try. However, when I signed up for the class, I didn’t notice I had signed up for Saturdays. When I went back to change it, all the other weekly classes were full. I don’t mind it too much though. Having a weekend class will get me out of the house, so I can’t complain. Well, I can today, because I do need to get home for the formal.

Class finishes up an hour later, but I decide to stay an extra hour to finish my glass vase. Just as I finish for the day, I get a text from Charls,

-Hey babe. I might be a bit late to the party, the Alpha Annyas are doing some event with the Alpha Beta Phis tonight. Love you

I roll my eyes. It is totally like the Alpha Beta Phis to plan something on the same day, just to draw attention away from us.

I then tuck my phone into my backpack and leave for the sorority house.

When I get home, it is five ‘O clock. I quickly go up to my room and start changing for the party. I can hear Kimberly moving around downstairs with Selena and Tatyana to get things ready. I should probably hurry up and go over to help them. After all, I am the one that thought of this event.

I spin around in my hot pink and black mini dress. I have to say, I look hot! When Charls gets here, he won’t be able to keep his eyes off me.

I then go into the bathroom and do a touch up on my makeup. By the time I finish getting ready, it is almost seven. Feeling satisfied, I then leave the bathroom and go downstairs.

So far, everything is looking good. Kimberly has set out some pastries and refreshments, ones I happen to know Selena prepared. I even sneak one into my mouth without them seeing. I am a bit surprised to see the buffet table though. When did Kimberly find the time to get one?

I am about to ask if we are going to be leaving the lights on for the night, when Kimberly switches them off. She then flips another switch and a disco ball starts reflecting images across the floor.

“Wow, you guys went all out!” I say laughing.

Selena comes over grinning. “I know! When Kim and I went into town to look for things I saw the disco ball and convinced her to get it. Doesn’t it look awesome?”

I nod. “Very.” We then hear the doorbell ring.

“Party time!” Selena cries, and she pushes me toward the door.

Everyone then piles in slowly, all wearing nice formal dresses. I feel my excitement rising. I even spot Carrie in the crowd wearing an amazing dress. I don’t know why she thinks she wouldn’t fit in with us. In fact, I think her outfit looks better than some of the Delta Sigmas. No offense.

I am a bit surprised to see who she came in with though. Walking by her, is none other than Kendal! Now I know Lizzie didn’t say anything about inviting him, so what was he doing here? I can only hope that this won’t turn into a problem when Michael gets here.

Afterwards, the party really begins. People walk about the house talking with one another and mingling. I am so thrilled. The Beta Gamma Kappas are definitely getting on the map! The Eta Phi Nus really start to come in an hour later, with Robbie and Greg leading them. Janice snags Greg just as he comes in and they head into the family room to dance. I have to say, she is looking pretty amazing herself. Her black spiked shoes are amazing. I think my style has rubbed off on her a bit, though I know she will never admit it.

I am surprised when I look over and spot Michael dancing with Lizzie. They look extremely happy grooving to the beats from the stereo. I have to assume that she hasn’t seen Kendal yet, for I know Michael wouldn’t be that calm about this. Still, I decide to ignore it and move on into the dining room to get a drink.

I spot Robbie in the dining room taking picks with the guys in the room and I can’t help snapping a photo of the two of us for myself. It will be a good memento and would look great for Beta Gamma Kappa publicity. Plus, Robbie is just hilarious! I swear the guy should do stand up. Who wouldn’t want a picture with him?

Afterwards, I decide to snap some more pictures for the party. Tatyana happens to walk into the dining room at that exact moment, so I snap a picture of myself with her. This will be perfect for our sorority house collage. I have pinned a board in the dining room for this exact purpose and we have already started doing so. This one will be a good addition.

“Awesome party Abby!” Tatyana says, just as I am about to head out. “And Selena’s tarts are amazing!”

“I know, right?” I laugh. “I snuck one into my mouth before the party started.”

She then leans closer to me. “So, did you notice what Moana’s sister Kylee is wearing?”

I shake my head. “No. What?”

“The same exact dress as Selena!”

“No! Really?”

“Yes! I don’t know if Selena has noticed it yet, but she is not going to be happy. She was so excited when we went to buy it during the week. She said it was so unique that she would be the only one at the party wearing it.”

I glance at the archway leading to the hallway.

“I had better go in there and make sure everything is still going smoothly.”

“Good idea.”

I then quickly hurry back into the family room.

I nearly bump into Kylee who indeed is in the same outfit as Selena. She is chatting with Carrie and the two of them seem to be amused with one of the Eta Phi Nu brothers.

“You really should go talk to him,” Kylee was saying to her. “I honestly think he’s into you.”

Carrie blushes. “I don’t know…”

“Do it! Ryder is pretty awesome.”

“I know. He’s very charismatic.”

“And laid back. Trust me, there is no need to be nervous.”

I frown. Ryder? Where they talking about Ryder Bell, Selena’s brother? Wow. I had no idea that Carrie had a thing for him. It’s pretty cute actually.

And guess what? Her nudging actually does work! About an hour later I go into the kitchen and see Carrie and Ryder chatting with one another, or should I say flirting.

“Nice match making job,” I joke to Kylee.

She turns and smiles. “Nah, I didn’t do much. It was Lizzie that finally pushed her to make a move and I’m glad she did. They’ve been eyeing each other since last quarter. I told her that he liked her, but she just didn’t believe me.”

“Well, they really seem to be hitting it off.”

Kylee nods. “Nice party by the way. I love, love the disco ball.”

I laugh. “Selena’s idea.”

“I’ll have to thank her when I see her.”

I honestly hope she doesn’t see her. They will both be in for a bit of a surprise…

I don’t let her leave without snapping a photo of us. I know I am starting to look like a cellphone obsessed teen, but I can’t help it! I don’t want to forget a single minute of tonight!

I am happy when I finally return to the family room and see Charls there. I don’t hesitate to snap a photo of us before dragging him back into the family room.

“Took a while for you to get here,” I say giving him a shove.

Charles shrugs. “Sorry. As I said, the Alpha Beta Phis were throwing a mixer with the Alpha Annyas and the Kappa Alpha Omegas.”

I frown. “The Kappa Alpha Omegas? Why would they invite them to a mixer?”

“I don’t know, I was kind of wondering that myself. I’m assuming there is some kind of motive.”

“There always is with them.”

Charls and I then head to the dance floor and start to dance. And let me tell you, we both really lit up the floor. A few times, some of the guests surrounded us just to watch. I have to say, all in all this has been an amazing night.

At least that’s what I had hoped. An hour later I decide to take a water break and head into the dining room. I was wondering where Lizzie had disappeared to because I hadn’t seen her in a while. Just as I was about to take a sip of my water, Kylee came running into the dining room.

“Abby! Fire!” She said.

I nearly choke on my water. “Fire? What do you mean fire?”

“I mean fire! The family room is on fire!”

It is after she said this, that I hear the fire alarms going off.

“Oh my gosh!” I shriek, and I run into the family room. Everyone is running from the room and I spot Janice and Lizzie on the other side of the room freaking out. I am completely speechless. How on Earth did the room catch fire?

I quickly scramble for my phone and hastily dial 9-1-1. I am barely able to talk as I mutter the address and try to explain what was going on. Why was this happening?

Charls on the other hand, springs into action. He manages to find a fire extinguisher from somewhere upstairs and brings it down. He then starts spraying the flames. He puts most of the fire out and I am so relieved that I could kiss him.

The fire fighters arrive five minutes later and rush in to finish it all. Luckily, Charls had put most of it out so they didn’t have to do much.

“You are lucky that lad sprang into action,” one of the firefighters says to me. “This whole room could have been tarnished.” He then lifts up a cigarette. “Honestly, if you are going to be smoking, at least put the bud out properly.”

My jaw drops. “What? No one in this house smokes!”

“Uh huh, okay.” He sighs and hands it to me. “Well, be careful next time.”

I am completely horrified. After the firefighters inspect the room, they advise us to contact our insurance and then head off. The party seems to deflate after that. All the guests leave quietly talking about how unsafe it was. No one claims the cigarette bud which is frustrating, because I know it didn’t belong to anyone who lives in this house.

After we clean up the rest of the food and decorations, I tell everyone that I am turning in for the night. I just can’t handle all this.

Despite my objections, Charls ends up staying the night with me and surprisingly Kimberly doesn’t argue about it. Probably in light of the fire.

“Abby, it was an accident,” Charls says as we cuddle on my bed.

I exhale deeply. “But I don’t know how it happened. No one in this house smokes.”

“That you know of.”

“Oh, I know. That is the first time I have seen a cigarette in this house. The firefighter I talked to said that he found it just thrown into the garbage. If someone had been a smoker here, I know they wouldn’t have been that stupid to throw it still lit, on the paper in the garbage.” I place my head on his shoulder. “This night was going so well until this. Now what?”

“Now you pay for the damages with your insurance and then move on. It was a horrible thing that happened, but it wasn’t your fault. It will blow over.”

I sigh again and close my eyes. “I sure hope so.”

Year 2: Chapter 34: Tensions Arise (Abby’s POV)

The week goes by so quickly that even I am surprised. My classes are going well so far and I am getting more and more excited about my astronomy class. It’s weird when you really think about it and realize that we are such a small speck in the galaxy. I mean, what else is out there?

After classes on Friday, I hurry home and start tidying the house for our two new members. I really am excited. Tonight when we attend the Frat Party, we will be going as our own sorority!

Just as I am about check the mail, I get a call from Kimberly.

“Hey Abby! Have the girls showed up yet?”

“No, not yet. I’m about to check the mail.”

“Have you gone to see Moana yet? We really need to figure that whole thing out if we still want to be able to do the drive.”

I sigh. “I’m sorry. I’ll head over now. I have two hours to kill before the girls are supposed to be here.”

“All right, just don’t be back late.”

“Sure thing.”

I then hang up the phone and walk over to my car.

It’s a short drive over to the Delta Sigma house, about ten minutes to be exact. I enjoy the nice sunset as I pass by some open fields. Aberdale U really does have a very nice campus. Sometimes I forget when I am rushing about. It’s nice to take time to just look.

I am quite surprised to see that the Delta Sigmas have an amazing sorority house! Seriously! It even looks larger than the Alpha Beta Phis. I can’t help but wonder why they are living here and the Alpha Beta Phis aren’t.

I then make my way over to the door and knock. Hopefully the girls aren’t all out.

The front door opens and a girl with long dark brown and wearing red-tinted glasses answers.

“Hi, may I help you?” she asks, then squints at me slightly. “Wait, I know you. Abby Clawson right?”

I nod. “Yes. I was hoping I could come in and speak to Moana for a few minutes if she is in. It’s about the blood drive that we were collaborating on.”

The girl then nods. “Oh yes that. Come in.” She then leads me into the foyer.

I look around in awe at the large space. “Wow, your sorority house is amazing!”

She smiles. “Thank you. We do take pride in our house. It’s one of the oldest buildings on campus.”

“That’s neat.” I then look back at her. “So is Moana available to talk.”

She grins. “Oh yes. I’m sorry. I am Moana. I should have said that earlier. What did you want to discuss?”

I sigh. “As you know, something happened with the instruments used for the blood drive, so they had to cancel it. I was just hoping that we could turn our drive into a food and donation drive instead. People can donate canned or boxed food, clothes, shoes or anything else. The Salvation army has been having some trouble getting people to donate, so I figured that this would help them greatly.”

Moana look intrigued. “Hmm. That doesn’t sound like a bad idea.”

“We can also take money donations as well. They say that ten percent of those donations will go to Aberdale U.”

“Well that certainly sounds like a good plan,” says Moana. “I’ll discuss it with the rest of the girls and then let you know as soon as possible.”

“All right. Thank you again for doing this with the Beta Gamma Kappas.”

She nods. “The Delta Sigmas are delighted to lend their services.” Geez. I heard they were a bit formal, but this was seriously over the top.

I’m feeling pretty good about myself by the time I get home. I could still detect that Moana was a bit uneasy about us working together, but I was going to make sure that they didn’t regret it. We definitely need their vote for the Greek council and I am not going to let it slip through our fingers.

As I approach the door, I spot Selena Bell walking over from the sidewalk carrying several luggages.

“Hey!” she says cheerfully. “I hope I’m not too early!”

I smile. “Nope. You’re right on time. Come on in.”

Selena comes in and looks around in awe. “This place looks great!” she says. “I can’t believe this is the same house.”

“Neither can I. You definitely should thank Kimberly a ton. She really got the help to put all this together.”

I then walk Selena into the family room helping to bring in her luggages.

“Wow,” she says again. “I could really get used to this.”

I laugh. I’m pretty sure she is referring to the new décor from Kimberly and the television purchased by Janice’s sisters again. It came in during the week. I literally just came and everything was set up neatly. When I tried to ask Janice about it, she just told me to enjoy it and stop asking so many questions. I don’t know why she is being so secretive, but I have decided not to push it.

“I know what you mean,” I say to Selena. “The house has really come together.”

“Oh, it has! So who else is living here?”

“So far, it’s me, Lizzie, Janice, Kimberly, and now you and Tatyana.”

“Tatyana Jenkins? Oh I know her!” Selena looks excited. “She is in my drama class. I am taking it for an elective, but she is majoring in it. And let me tell you, she is an amazing actress! I really think she is going to be a star someday!”

Selena says all this so fast that I just blink at her and smile. “Well, I’m glad to hear it. You two will be bunking together.”

I decided to do this considering we are still looking for more pledges. In case we get another person to rent, at least there will be a room free.

Selena just nods. “That’s fine with me! I’m just so happy to be a part of your sorority! I was trying to pledge to Alpha Beta Phi back in September, but they said I wasn’t sorority material. The leader, Ashley, said my voice made her want to stab someone.”

I frown. “Wow, that’s cold! Not surprising from her though.”

Selena shrugs. “I know that I get on people’s nerves. My parents always tell me that I have way too much energy. I think that’s why they were so happy that I went to a college that was far from them. They’d never say it, but I know.”

I received so much information in that short speech that I don’t even know how to respond. “I, um, I’m sorry,” I say finally.

Selena shrugs. “No problem! I’m just happy to be here and a part of you guys.”

I help her lug her things up to her room and then we go back downstairs and into the dining room. I am surprised to see Kimberly siting with Tatyana. Lizzie was even chatting with her.

“When did you get here?” I ask.

Kimberly, who was reading from her bio chem textbook, looks up. “I could ask the same. I thought you were still at the Delta Sigma house.”

“No, I got back a while ago. I was just showing Selena around.” I look at Tatyana. “I’m sorry that I wasn’t here to see you in.”

Tatyana shakes her head. “No problem. Kimberly and Elizabeth have been very friendly. I am really starting to like it here already.”

We all chat for a few more minutes before the doorbell rings.

“Must be the boys,” Kimberly says, closing her textbook. “We should head off so we aren’t too late to the party.”

Sure enough, when I answer the door Charls and Michael are waiting for us. I call to everyone over my shoulder and then we all load up into my car and Charls’s.

As nervous as I am, I end up having a pretty good time at the party. We all manage to pile in through the door without Brad, Taylor or Clare noticing that we have come in. And with all the people there, it is easy for us to blend into the crowd. I am surprised to look over and see that even Lizzie is enjoying herself, grooving to the beat blaring from the speakers. I encourage everyone to mingle and soon we all disappear into the crowd of dancing partyers.

Somewhere through the night, I lose track of Charls and have to start searching for him. I of course get unlucky and reach for the wrong person.

“Charls,” I start, but then feel myself clam up. I am looking directly into Brad’s face.

He looks surprised. “Abby, I didn’t know you were coming tonight.”

“Oh, um,” I feel at a loss for words. “Well, Kim said something about it and I thought I would check it out. Also, Charls invited me.”

Technically that is not true, but I know Charls would have invited me if we hadn’t been going to crash.

I think that Brad is about to kick me out, but he doesn’t. Instead he says,

“Oh. Well it’s nice to see you. It’s been a while.”

I am so confused by his nice response. We have been on bad terms ever since the video of him and Clare last year and the whole cheating thing. Not to mention him twisting the story around to make himself the  victim. So what was up with all the niceness all of a sudden?

“W-well I guess it is nice to see you too,” I say back, not completely sure if I mean it. “How was your internship?”

Brad nods. “Good. It was nice to do something different, but it wasn’t too exciting considering it was with my father’s company. He own’s one of the largest banks in Wystera Hills.”

I frown. “Wystera Hills? Isn’t that where your parents live?”

Brad nods. “Yup.”

Funny, but that is also where Charls’s family lives as well. It makes it more obvious how long Charls and Brad have probably known each other.

“Well that’s cool that you got the opportunity,” I say.

Brad grins. “Well it wasn’t as if I wouldn’t have gotten it.”

I laugh. “Still. It’s pretty nice.”

Brad glances at the stereo and then raises a hand toward me.

“Care to dance?”

Just as he says this, Selena passes by giving me a thumbs up. Oh goodness. I definitely need to explain the kind of guy Brad really was.

Still, I don’t want to cause a scene or bring attention to us, so I agree. Brad looks thrilled, which is so weird for me.

We then start dancing, with Lizzie and Michael standing right by us. Lizzie mouths “what are you doing?” but I just wave her off. This was strange enough.

As we dance, Brad keeps getting closer and closer to me. I can’t help but give him a funny look. Were we just going to pretend like nothing happened between us?

I glance over toward the living room and see Charls taking a swig from the beer kegger. He downs the rest of his cup and then slowly turns in our direction. Some people have left the dancefloor leaving some space between him and us. He then locks eyes on Brad and me and I see a frown cross his forehead. Uh oh, that is not good.

He walks up to us saying, “Excuse me,” and then takes me by the hand and pulls me into his room. Brad looks a bit startled, and follows us inside.

“What the hell are you doing?” Brad asks.

Charls was still frowning. “That’s what I was going to ask. What where you doing to Abby?”

“We were just dancing.”

“Sure you were.”

I sigh. “It’s okay Charls, we really were just dancing.”

Brad rolls his eyes. “Yeah man, chill.”

Charls then turns to me. “You okay?”

“Yes, I’m fine,” I start, but Brad interrupts.

“Of course she’s fine! What is your deal?”

Charls takes my hand into his. “Come on. Let’s go.”

Brad moves in front of us. “I think Abby can decide for herself.”

“Brad,” I start, but then Charls doesn’t let me finish.

“Move Brad,” he says slowly. I feel my hands heating up. This was not going well.

When Brad doesn’t budge, Charls reaches around him to get the door handle. Before he can open it, Brad tackles him down to the ground.

“Brad stop it!” I yell, but I can tell he isn’t listening. He tries blow after blow at Charls’s face, but he blocks each one. At one point, Charls finally gets Brad’s head in a headlock. I let out a shriek and finally the bedroom door opens.

Michael hurries in, just as Charls tosses Brad onto the floor. Brad then gets up slowly glaring at him.

Michael looks back and forth between the two of them. “What’s going on?” he asks, but neither of them respond. Charls and Brad both just stare at each other like they want to kill each other.

I, however, am kind of embarrassed about this whole thing. As much as I appreciate Charls coming to my defense, this all wasn’t really necessary.

I sigh. “It’s okay Michael,” I say, and move toward the door.

“Abby,” Charls calls after me, but I hold up my hand.

“Charls, I’ll talk to you tomorrow,” I say, and then head out of the room.

I tell Lizzie and Janice that I am heading out and they call everyone to join us. I feel bad having to cut the party short, but I really needed to get out of there.

It’s a quiet drive home and all the while I am just staring out the window. My phone keeps beeping, but I don’t even glance down.

When we arrive home, I decide to check my cell. Charls has left five messages, the last one being the longest. He apologizes for the night saying he didn’t mean to start a fight with Brad. He then says he understands if I am upset and that I should just know that he loves me, which makes it so hard for me to be angry with him.

I debate texting him back, but decide to wait until tomorrow morning. Let him sweat it out a little. I then say goodnight to everyone and head straight up to bed. I only hope that no one else saw the fight or what it was about. The last thing the Beta Gamma Kappas needed was a scandal. Seriously, we had already been through enough.

Year 2: Chapter 32: Alpha Annyas New Year’s Eve Bash: Part 2 (Lizzie’s POV)

The next day goes by very fast for me. I don’t wake up until after one in the afternoon. I can tell I must have been tired. Since I am unsure what time the painters are coming today, I quickly head into the bathroom to take a shower and get ready. I can see why they are coming. The bathroom could use an extra coat of paint.

I quickly get ready and finish just as I hear the downstairs bell ring. Good timing.

As the painters work on the bathrooms and the upstairs rooms, I spend the time unpacking my things. Abby then comes in to tell me she is heading to the fashion store downtown to get a new outfit for tonight. She asks me along implying that my wardrobe could use some improvement, but before she finishes, I give her a look which encourages her to stop talking and just leave. Ugh, I guess Abby will be Abby.

After she leaves, I go down to the family room to snag one of the bookshelves Kimberly had purchased, for my room. Michael is down there, surprising me, but he tells me he is just fixing up something with the fireplace for us. Isn’t he handy!

I then go back to my room to put the bookshelf together, taking me forty minutes. I have to say, it looks very nice. Being busy with school and my novel, I haven’t really had a lot of time to read regular novels. I hadn’t even read the comics Michael had suggested to me. Hopefully this quarter I would be able to find the time.

I stay upstairs for the next couple hours putting my room together and even happen to hear Kimberly muttering in the hallway as she lugs something heavy up the stairs. Funny, I thought she wasn’t coming until Monday. I then start to feel famished, so I leave my room and go down to the kitchen. The only thing in there right now is some of Janice’s leftover yogurt, some fruit and Abby’s fruit parfait. We really need to go grocery shopping. I serve myself a bowl of fruit parfait and then join Abby and Janice in the dining room to eat. Kimberly, Michael and Charls join us later and we all chat together before Kimberly announces we need to leave so we don’t miss the New Year’s Eve beach party.

It takes us another thirty minutes to leave because Abby suddenly freaks after hearing from Charls that Brad was back. Now I know that he is her ex-boyfriend and everything, but geez. Did she have to freak out like that? I mean, Charls was right there and everything. Then again, they might have not noticed because Abby can play off being okay better than me.

As we drive along I contemplate asking her if she was okay, but decide not to. She suddenly looks relaxed and I don’t want to hype her up again.

The party ends up being a lot of fun. It is definitely a lot more diverse than before. There are more regular college students than sorority and fraternity members. I spot Janice and Greg hanging out and dancing together which makes me smile. Last semester was just awful with the way that things were with them. It’s nice to see that they are back on track.

Janice then heads over to the grill and starts making some burgers. The aroma makes my mouth water. That fruit parfait just did not do it for me. After she finishes, I snag one of the burgers for myself and may I just say, it was quite delicious.

I then look over and spot Taylor pass by giving Janice a look of disgust. My gaze follows her and I spot her standing beside Brad, along with Clare! In front of them is Charls and he doesn’t look to happy to see them. I can only hope that they don’t run into Abby. She won’t be too pleased with their arrival.

I am about to go and see what is going on, when someone steps in front of me.

“Hey Lizzie,” she says with a smile. “Nice seeing you. Did you have a good break?”

I blink. “Carrie, hey.” I’m a bit surprised to see her at a party like this. She definitely was not the partying type. “My break was good. You?”

She grins. “Great actually! I went skiing with my parents and sister Lucy. Not as productive as I would have liked, but still fun.”

I shake my head. This girl is more into studying than even me.

“So how is your novel going? I can take another look at it if you would like. I wasn’t sure if my edits were cohesive enough.”

“They were,” I say quickly. The last thing I need for her to be is any more critical than she already was. “I’m still working on it, but I will let you know if I do.”

“So, I am pretty excited for the writer’s club this year. We have more members which is going to make the readings great.”

I chuckle. “I’ll bet you have the first reading planned for this week.”

“Well, I did suggest it to Kendal, but we are still in the works. Hopefully it will be on Friday.”

I cough slightly. “I’m sorry, did you say Kendal?”

Carrie nods. “Yes, he’s back this semester. His internship finished over winter break. He’s actually here at the party. Right over there.”

I glance in the direction she is pointing to and sure enough, Kendal is standing by a bon fire someone has started.

“You should go say hi. I’ll bet he’d be happy to see you. He’s been talking a lot about you since he got back.”

Before I am able to answer, Carrie turns and walks off. I contemplate leaving before Kendal notices me, but then decide against it. After everything that he and I have been through, I could at least be brave enough to talk to him. So after taking a deep breath, I slowly make my way over to him.

Just as I am about to lose my nerve, Kendal turns and sees me.

“Lizzie!” he says with a bright smile. “Long time no see!”

I smile nervously. “Yes, it has been a while.”

“How are you?”

I swallow gently. “Good. I’ve been good. H-how was your internship?”

“Excellent.” Kendal grins and I feel a strange feeling in my stomach, the way I used to feel when we were together. Goodness, I think I am starting to understand why Abby was freaking out earlier.

Kendal then starts to tell me all about his internship and how exciting it was.

“I learned a lot, but I still find my passion in my writing,” he finishes. “So I think that I want to minor in it. Maybe I can find a way to mesh the two together.”

I nod. “Sounds like a really good idea. Especially if you are passionate about both.”

He then does something that makes my stomach start doing somersaults. He gives me that smile again and says, “You’re always so easy to talk to. I’ve really missed you, Elizabeth.”

I am completely speechless. My cheeks begin to heat up and I look away quickly not wanting Kendal to see me blushing. It was so strange being with him again.

“I…I um…” I still can’t seem to find the words and just drift off.

Kendal seems to realize the awkwardness.

“Elizabeth, I didn’t mean to make things awkward.” He sighs. “I know things ended weird with us last year.”

I look back up at him. “Yah, they kind of did.”

“That whole thing with us and then Michael.”

I swallow hard. “Yes, about that, there’s something I should-”

I don’t get a chance to finish because Michael comes walking right up to us. Oh great.

“Hey Liz,” he says approaching us. I can see Kendal already starting to tense up. “What’s going on?”

“Nothing, just talking to Kendal. He’s back from his internship.”

“Oh really?” Michael glances at Kendal. “I thought it was for the entire year?”

Kendal shakes his head. “No, just for the past two quarters.”

“I heard about that business internship,” Michael continues. I notice he is getting a bit tense as well. “I know some people who got the same one and they told me that there was one for just the summer and one for this entire school year. Since you were still enrolled last quarter, I’m assuming you got the year internship. So, how did you get out so early?”

Kendal’s eyes narrow slightly. “Not that it is any of your business, but I happened to have arranged the exit of my internship with the company and my advisor.”

I bite my lip. This is not going well.

“Well, if you don’t mind Michael, Elizabeth and I were in the middle of something.”

“Which would be?”

“I don’t think that is any of your business.”

“I’d have to disagree.”

I sigh. “Michael, please.”

Michael turns and gives me a look of confusion. “Lizzie, haven’t you told him about us?”

Kendal frowns. “What are you talking about?”

“I was getting to it Michael.” I exhale deeply. I really wish I could have told Kendal about this before Michael had shown up. “Kendal, Michael and I are…well…”

“We’re together,” Michael finishes.

I blink at him. Goodness! Couldn’t he just give me a minute?

Kendal looks stunned. He just stands still for a few seconds, seeming to be processing everything. I can’t help but feel awful. We had basically ended things because of me and my feelings for Michael and now here I was dating him. This must look terrible.

“I see,” Kendal says finally. “So, you two are in a relationship?”

“Yes,” I say. I am relieved at least Michael let me speak then.

Kendal nods. “Oh. Well then, I guess I’m happy for the two you.”

I smile slightly. “Thank you.”

We stand in silence again for a few more seconds before Kendal clears his throat.

“Well I should go,” he says. “It’s getting late and I have some things to take care of.”

“But what about the fireworks?” I ask. “They’re about to start.”

Kendal shrugs. “It’s okay. I’ll still be able to see them from my apartment.” He then smiles at me. “Nice seeing you again, Elizabeth,” he says, and then he slowly walks off to the sidewalk. Toward the beach, the fireworks go off showing bright colors in the sky.

After Kendal is gone, I turn on Michael. “Was that necessary?”

He frowns. “What?”

“You were basically trying to pick a fight with him!”

“No I wasn’t. I was just talking.”

I give him a look. “Sure, you were. What was all that about his internship?”

“I just thought that his story was fishy. I think there is another motive for him coming back and I am staring right at her.”

My jaw drops. “Michael, Kendal and I broke up spring quarter of last year! You really think he has been sitting around pinning for me that whole time?”

“Yes, I do.”

I give him a look. “Michael,” I start, but then he gives me a kiss on my cheek.

“You’re a special girl Liz, any guy would.”

I can’t help but smile at that. I honestly hate the way I can never seem to stay mad at him for long. “You want to come back to the house with me?”

Michael raises an eyebrow. “A nightly invitation?”

I give Michael a shove. “Get your mind out of the gutter.” I then take his hand and we walk toward my car.

“Janice, do want a ride?” I start to call over, but then I notice she and Greg are pushed against each other and frenching like crazy. Something tells me that she won’t be coming home tonight.

Instead, I call over to Kimberly and she joins Michael and I in the car. I spot Charls’s car missing and figure he and Abby must have gone off somewhere together.

We arrive at the house fifteen minutes later and Michael and I head up to my room. Kimberly gives me a look and I promise her that there will be no “activity” in my room, so she needn’t worry. I can’t however, say the same for Abby, wherever she and Charls were.

In my room, Michael and I lay on my mattress. He tries to straddle me, but I stop him.

“There is one more thing I have to ask. What exactly were you trying to do with Kendal tonight? Stake your claim over me?”

Michael sighs. “No Liz, I-I just wanted him to know about us. Clearly he didn’t.”

“Michael, I was about to tell him right before you showed up! I wanted to let him know without making it awkward.”

“Ah. So I probably didn’t help, huh?”

“Not really.” I let out a puff of air. “Well, at least he knows now. I hope things are okay with us. I don’t want things to be weird with us both being in the writing club and everything.”

Michael pulls me to him. “You worry too much Lizzie. By the way, I forgot to ask, what is up with all that Elizabeth, Elizabeth stuff?”

I frown. “What?”

“He’s always calling you that.”

“Well, it is my name…”

“I know, but it sounds so formal.”

I giggle. “I know, it totally does. I guess I always just thought it was cute. He made me feel like I was in one of those old rom-com movies.”

Michael looks down at me. “Really? Should I start calling you that now? Elizabeth?”

I laugh. “No, I love that you call me Lizzie. It’s my nickname.”

“Are you sure? I could definitely come around to it, Elizabeth.”

I smile and snuggle into his shoulder. “I want you to call me what feels natural to you.”

Michael nods. “All right then, Lizzie.”

I feel my eyelids growing heavy. “But, I can’t lie. It is sometimes nice to hear my whole name.”

Michael kisses my forward. “As you wish, Elizabeth.”

I then slowly lose consciousness and drift off to sleep.

(Thank you for reading! Sorry that the chapter is a little late! With the holidays here and all, it has been pretty busy. In the next few weeks I hope to move to posting two chapters a week. Also, I have a new story in the works. So stay tuned!!!!!)

Year 2: Chapter 31: New Year’s Eve Bash: Part 1 (Abby’s POV)

Abby’s POV

I am extreme relieved when we arrive and I don’t see Brad anywhere. Maybe he had decided not to come? Whatever the case, it is definitely a load off my back.

My excitement quickly ends when I spot one of Brad’s frat brothers, the same guy that tried to hit on me at the Gala party.

“Abby,” he says grinning and looking me up and down, “looking good.”

I cringe slightly. He is really such a sleaze. I try to move past him, but he blocks me.

“You know my offer still stands,” he continues, “If you maybe want to hang later-”

“No thanks,” I say, cutting him off. “And as you probably already know, I’m with Charls.”

He laughs. “Oh, come on,” he says, moving a bit closer to me. “I’ll make it worth your while.”

“She’s not interested, Skip.”

I glance over my shoulder and spot Charls walking over.

Skip looks up and rolls his eyes. “Charls, chill,” he says. “Abby and I were just kidding around.”

“No, we weren’t,” I say quickly. “And Skip, was just leaving.”

“Sounds like a good idea,” Charls says slowly.

Skip looks from me to Charls and then back to me again.

“Whatever,” he says adjusting his sunglasses slightly. “I don’t even know what Brad saw in you anyways.” He then turns and walks off.

Charls turns to me. “You all right?” he asks.

I nod. “Yah. He just gets on my last nerves.”

“Sorry, Skip can be a bit of a tool.”

“No kidding.”

Charls looks around. “Well, it looks like Brad hasn’t arrived yet.”

“And hopefully he won’t.” I give Charls a quick kiss. “I’m going to mingle a bit. Be back.”

I try to avoid Skip for the rest of the party which isn’t too hard since he also seems to be avoiding me because of Charls. I do see him on the phone later, and I can’t help but notice that he is staring right at me as he talks to whoever is on the other line. Could he be talking to Brad?

I decide to ignore him and continue through the party. Everyone seems to be having fun. I even spot Janice cooking up some burgers on the grill. Thank goodness. That fruit parfait we had earlier did not do the trick for me.

I am so distracted by her cooking that I almost don’t notice someone calling my name.

“Abby! Hey!” she says with a smile. “Do you remember me? Tatyana? From the Christmas bazaar?”

I nod. “Yes, I remember! Nice to see you!” I shake her hand. “I didn’t expect you here so soon!”

“Me either, but I did not want to miss the New Year’s Eve beach party. I’ve heard about it, but never gotten the chance to attend it before.”

“Well then I’m glad you’re here,” I say.

She smiles. “Thank you. Also, I was just wondering, when I will be able to move into the rental house?”

“Should be in good order by Friday. Sorry for the delay. We had a bit of trouble with someone trashing the place.”

Tatyana looks worried. “The place was trashed? Wow! Does that happen often?”

“No, not usually. I think we were targeted by one of the other sororities. Some of them aren’t that supportive of the Beta Gamma Kappas.” When she still looks worried, I smile. “Don’t worry. We are going to show all of those sororities and frats that we are just as great as them.”

That seems to relax her a bit and she heads off back to the party. I can’t afford to lose any pledges right now because of Alpha Beta Phis.

Glancing over at the picnic table, I spot Janice’s finished burgers steaming on the table. No way am I missing getting one. I quickly snatch one up and scarf it down, glancing around to see if anyone noticed. I am sure a lot would be said about me and how much calories were in that. But right now, I am too hungry to care.

“Saw that!” Someone says from behind me, and I jump.

I then notice who it is, and sigh, giving her a smile. It’s Selena Bell, my other pledge for Beta Gamma Kappa.

“Hey Selena!” I say waving.

“Hey!” she quickly gives me a hug, catching me off guard. “I know I said I wasn’t coming until Tuesday, but Kimberly texted me about the party and I didn’t want to miss it! And let me tell you, it is amazing!” She clasps her hands together. “Everyone here is so awesome, even the guys! I met this really, really cute guy named Skip and we’re hanging out tonight after the party.”

“Uh,” I pause for a minute trying to let everything she just said sink in. “Skip? You mean from Alpha Annya?”

“Is he?” Selena looks even more thrilled. “Wow, I can’t believe he would be interested in me.”

I frown. “Don’t sell yourself short. And just so you know, you can do a lot better than Skip. Trust me, I would know.”

Selena looks confused. “Why do you say that?”

I shake my head. “Just trust me on that. I have had run ins with Skip and you can do so much better than him. Any girl can.”

Selena shrugs. “Well, it doesn’t hurt to give him a chance.”

“Well, Good luck.”

“So about the rental house,” she then says and I hold up my hand.

“Don’t worry, it will be all ready by Friday. There are some last-minute things that need to be taken care of, but it will all be fine by then.”

“All right.” Selena gives me another squeeze. “Well back to the party!” she then hurries off and I can’t help but laugh. I definitely love her excitement. It’s one of the reasons I thought she would be a good pledge.

I am surprised when I look over toward the beach and see people starting to set off the fireworks. Checking my watch, I see that it is already almost twelve. The hours sure went by fast!

I then walk over toward the beach to watch the fireworks.

Within minutes, I along with everyone else am watching a brilliant display of fireworks in the sky. They really picked nice ones for this year. Charls is among the people lighting them, so I wander through the crowd over to him.

I stop short when I see who Charls is standing in front of. I feel my breath suck in. Brad Roberts.  Brad Roberts is at the party, and next to him, is Taylor and Clare. Here I thought I would have a stress-free night.

“Didn’t see you at the frat house today,” Brad was saying.

Charls shrugs. “I was at the Beta Gamma Kappa house.”

Taylor scoffs. “You say it as if they are a real sorority. They aren’t even close to being anything.”

“I have to disagree.”

“So you’re defending them now?” Taylor laughs. “Figures, since you’re now a traitor. What kind of frat brother steals his best friend’s girlfriend?”

Brad’s eyes narrow. “I’ve been wondering the same thing.”

Now, I know I have to do something, but I can’t seem to make myself move any further.

Unfortunately, I don’t have to. Clare spots me and walks over.

“Speak of the skank, there she is now.” Clare smirks. “How goes it Abby?”

I swallow hard trying not to look intimidated. “Great actually. You?”

“Never better. Although I can’t seem to comprehend what would make you and your little friends come here.”

I glare at her. “This is a beach party for the whole campus, Clare. You guys can’t dictate who comes.”

Clare shrugs. “Oh I know. I just thought you would have the common sense not to. Especially with your reputation.”

I raise an eyebrow. “My reputation?”

Clare yawns. “Yes Abby, must I lay it all out for you? Cheating on your exams, getting the Tri-Fruhms expelled from campus, two timing your boyfriend, a frat president and member of the Greek council-” She pauses to smirk at me. “Must I go on?”

I grit my teeth. “I find it ironic you would say that considering I know you are the one that turned me in. Even more, I wasn’t the only one who cheated. I’m not proud of it, but I was not the only one. You threw me under the bus, which isn’t exactly sisterly, is it?”

Clare narrows her eyes, but I ignore her.

“And the Tri-Fruhms were abusing their power on campus. That’s why they got expelled,” I continue. “So you have some nerve accusing me of two-timing when you were the one cheating with Brad the whole time. You even made a sex tape of it and spread it around to mark your claim! Talk about pathetic.”

“I didn’t make that tape!” Clare shouts, causing people to turn. She must have realized how loud she said it, because she then looks embarrassed.

I smirk. “Keep telling yourself that.”

Clare looks furious. “Well at least when I was dating Brad, I was only dating him! Unlike you dating both him and Charls at once. How do we know that there wasn’t another guy behind the scenes? Make it three for three?”

I hear Taylor laughing over by Brad and that makes me snap.

“I am so sick of all the lies that all of you go around spreading about me, when you all know the truth! I was completely faithful to Brad the entire time we were dating and he knows it! Unlike him, who couldn’t even stay faithful to me through Christmas!” I look directly into Brad’s eyes when I say that and for the first time, I actually detect guilt in his eyes.

“You were cheating on me the whole entire time we were together and you even admitted to me that you were in love with Clare. That is why I broke up with you. Charls and I didn’t get together until weeks after our break up, and I have every right to date whoever I want! You don’t have any say in my love life! You were the one who ruined us and it is time that you stop blaming me for it!”

While Taylor just stands there looking amused about the whole thing, I can tell that I got to Brad. He just stares at me speechless for a few moments and then he does the strangest thing.

He opens his mouth and says “Abby,” in the gentlest voice and just as I think he is about to say more, another set of fireworks go off. We all move out of the way and cover our ears to miss the loud noise. I am still completely stunned. Was Brad just about to apologize?

I am not able to find out, for Clare waves her hand to him. “Hey guys, lets head back to the frat party. There is nothing worth staying here for.” She then gives me a look of disgust.

Taylor stretches. “Gladly.”

Brad gives me one last look, and then follows after them.

After they leave, Charls comes over to me.

“You okay?” he asks.

I shrug. “I’m fine. I’ve wanted to say that to him for a long time.”

“I can tell.”

He then pulls me into one of his warm hugs.

I smile and give him a little squeeze. “I’m just so glad I have you.”

“And me you.”

I bite my lip. “Come home with me?” I whisper in his ear.

He sounds surprised. “You sure that’s a good idea? I heard Kim saying something about rules-”

“It’s just one night. She doesn’t have to know.”

Twenty minutes later, we are back in my room undressed, kissing passionately on my mattress. My thoughts of Brad have long left my mind and all I can think of is Charls and me alone in this moment.

He pauses for a moment and glances at the door. “You sure Kim won’t come-”

I quickly press a finger to his lips. “Charls, just shut up and kiss me.”

Charls grins and presses his lips onto mine and soon the room is silent; apart from the sounds of our kisses in the dark of the night.
